good tool, durable and useful
I have several multi tools of this type and use them frequently on farm, camping, and around one acre yard. This multi tool is sturdy and all the fold out tools lock in place for use. I had to sharpen the straight edge blade and it seems to be durable. The other tools seem durable too and they are well finished and comfortably usable. The locking mechanism is sold and I like this feature as the tools don't fold under harder use. The Philips head is medium size and would not do for hard use with large screws but is adequate for most use. I highly recommend this multi tool. Note: this tool is a little large than some other and therefore the carrying case is necessary for me. I would like to have gotten a case that had a better belt loop attached but will obtain a better case as I feel the tool is worth the 'upgrade'.

The best multi-tool available!!
I own several variations on the multi-tool including the previous standard in multi-tools Leatherman. The Hoffman Richter version is as strong as the best and the blade, file, etc. locking mechanism makes it superior to all others I have seen. The wire cutter and gripper jaw allignment is the best I have seen. As someone who greatly appreciates quality steel you can believe me when I tell you the workmanship is among the best I have ever found. I would highly recommend this tool to a friend. Great price and exceptional quality.

No corkscrew
There are two knives on this multitool, and the smaller of the "knives" is quite blunt whilst the larger one is razor sharp. It's quite sturdy, and the only thing that it's missing is a corkscrew.UPDATE:7 years on, and this knife is still going strong! I couldn't see myself without it and I use it all the time. Over the years it lost a screw, and that caused some of the tools to bunch up, but I was shocked to see that only only paid a little over $30 for this knife. It could easily sell for $50+. Very nice knife.

Great set of pliers - otherwise a perfectly average generic multi-tool. Not for me.
I bought this because of all of the "just as good as a Leatherman" reviews and I'm sorry folks, but this doesn't quite hold up to that. More later, after the Pro's and Con's.Pros:- Really Great Pliers - spring loaded and silky smooth operation after cycling them a bit to get the gritty "freshly manufactured" feel out of them- Locking tools (hard to find at this price-point)Cons:- Requires too much effort to open - can't easily open with 1 hand- Dull and under-sized knife (could have easily been 1/4 longer)- Bulkier than comparable, albeit pricier, tools (8mm wider than a better equipped older low-end Leatherman)- 4 keychain connection hooks - only 1 is needed, the other 3 just jab you while in your pocket.- Finish on pliers wearing off from rubbing other tools when closed- Locking mechanism allows a lot of sloppy movement of toolsMy girlfriend has an 8-year old Leatherman Blast (lower-end model). The Blast is lighter, smaller, sleeker (fewer protrusions), has more tools, a very solid locking mechanism (no play in the blade or tools), a knife that is both larger and sharper and it's action is smoother - it does not have a spring-loaded pliers like the HR100 does.I've been trying to like the HR100 for weeks now. I just can't. The knife is dull and shorter than necessary. I pulled it out to cut open some shrink wrap on a pallet, it can't cut it - it just snags and tears. I used it to make a single cut in cardboard - again, it just tears. Every time I go to use this thing, it has performed poorly and it's led me to not want to carry it any longer. The locking is not solid - all tools have plenty of play side to side and forward/backward while locked - there's no danger of it closing, but it shows a lack of any real development time with this. Cutting a smaller slot in the tool blanks for the lock to seat into would alleviate much of the play. It's just bulky and heavier than needed - I'd like to see how they do with version 2.0, because this one is no fun to use and does not inspire confidence in the tool. Overall, it's just not a tool I am getting any use out of.

Great company with the right tools and customer service
This seller has a great selection of tools for the first responders, and I admire them.I also must say, I have received 2 communications with them after this purchase, and I can't tell you how much I loved such treasured moments. They treated me like one of the family. The result is that I can't wait to make another purchase! Can you believe that?Excellent equipment and tools, and even better PR than almost anyone on the net. They sure know how to make their customers appreciate doing business with them. Typical of any business that has the tools needed by the public and happy to serve them. Well, it comes right back around just like you see here.Keep up the good work, guys and gals. You're with us all the way, so we're with you.Harold Hanley, Chicago, Il.

Very sturdy multitool. Very excellent for the price.
This seems like a really high quality multitool. I purchased it on recommendations from several people online, and I agree with all of them. Especially for the price, it doesn't get better than this. The locking feature for all the tools is great. We've all used those ultra-cheapo multitools where the knife or other tool folds back on you right when you need it not to. The pliers are good and strong. The only thing I wish it had is tweezers, but I have some of those in my first aid kit anyhow so not a huge deal.I know you can spend a lot more on a multitool from one of the bigger brands. I'd never actually heard of Hoffman before I got this. But I'm a big fan now, and I like the price much better than some of those Leatherman or Gerber ones.

Seams like very good tool.
I just received this multitool and it looks great and all tools lock as advertised. It feels heavy duty and durable. I have not had a reason to use it yet but hopefully it stands up to its reputation. I live near the sea and hope it will hold up to the salt air. It looks like it will hold up but time will tell. It came with the nylon pouch which seams to be durable and sturdy. I will write another review after some use and see how it holds up.
