Megatech Ambassabor 4-Channel Electric RTF Airplane #MTC 9942

Neat plane, looks like it would probably be lots of fun, however it came with 3 props that looked too small for the airplane, and plane nosedived on all 3 launches, 3 props busted in 3 minutes. The real kicker? No one, including Megatech, has any replacement props, nor do they expect to, for at least 3 months!Now I'm stuck with this expensive lump of plastic + styrofoam gathering dust in my closet. What a ripoff!

I have to say that I am probably one of the few folks that really like this lil' Cessna & the other offerings from Megatech. I learned RC flying on low-end, 2-channel planes from Megatech. Then I moved up to their 3- & 4-channel ones & all of those planes served me well. I've crashed them all (more than once), pieced them back together & kept (most of) them flying.I guess I'm partial to this one because I also learned to fly their Freedom Flyer model with ailerons before the Ambassador's eventual release. Both planes are similar in design, are twitchy & can be somewhat hard to control during take-off & in windy conditions.I practiced on a PC simulator so the transition from desktop to park setting wasn't too difficult for me. I recommend the same learning process for others just starting out in order to gain all important stick time & in flight plane-to-pilot visual orientation.The Ambassador is a big step up from the "Frequent Flyer" as it's far superior in terms of power, motor selection, speed control & battery type compared to that of its older sibling.Yes, there can be design flaws or manufacturing problems with the models Megatech offers & the Ambassador is no exception. Be advised this can be true with many other manufacturers of RC aircraft as well.Pros:I find the almost-scale Ambassador a blast to fly. It will ROG within 30 feet, perform aerobatic maneuvers with authority & I can land it on upright 3 wheels on dirt, short grass or asphalt without it toppling over. It has a durable fuselage plus it can be easily repaired in the field depending on the type of damage sustained.Cons:This lil' plane is twitchy & sensitive to control inputs so small stick movements are key. The steerable nose gear is worthless & broke after 3 successful ROG's & landings. I've converted mine to a fixed nose wheel, similar to that of the Freedom Flyer, & find it much easier to control for take-offs now.Bottom line:This is not a beginner plane & the Megatech statement saying so is misleading. The Ambassador is for novice pilots that want to or are beginning to learn 4-channel RC aircraft. It flies fast but has a decent glide slope with half or less throttle & can be dead-stick landed if necessary. Plus, it's a decent looking model that's fun to fly.

This thing is low end junk. A few little tweaks here and there and it would have been a really good plane. The nose gear is useless, it can barely support the weight of the plane standing still, never mind actually trying to get up to take off speed. Totally discount the fact that the nose gear is so floppy and useless that you can't actually go in a straight line. You nose over to the side and lose a prop, guaranteed.The charger is junk. My died the day I got it, never even charged the battery. Sent $10 to Megatech for "warranty work" (what a racket), waited a few weeks and got another one. That one charged 2 batteries and croaked. It wasn't the fuse, something inside fried and shorted.The props, they told me I had to wait 3 months. Nice... and they won't even tell you what an equivalent prop is. I tried it on a 7x3, not great. It really moves well on an 8x4 GWS 3 blade. Doesn't fly particularly well, but its got a lot of power.The horizontal and vertical stabilizers are floppy floppy floppy, unless you throw a few bends in the rudder control rod it just pulls the vertical stabilizer over. The Horizontal stabilizer creases easily and then ends up flopping all over the place. One rough landing and its pretty shot.My radio or my receiver bugged out, I don't know which and I don't care at this point. Servo's hopping all over the place. It does have a nice motor, do not buy the Megatech replacement, you can get it for $10-$12 elsewhere, or a replacement shaft for $2. And the battery is decent.If you can get this thing for $50, it might be worth it, otherwise skip it, its not worth it. Also, its pretty high on the wing loading, so its a bit fast, not great for a beginner.

I have to say that I bought this plane before reading all of the reviews posted here. After reading them all I was kind of dissapointed even before giving it a chance to this plane. I took it to the park three days ago and flew it. I am a beginner and all thta I can say is that I like it a lot. It was easy to fly it ( I had set in the beginner mode.) It also has a expert mode but I am not there yet. It handles wind pretty well( between 0 mph to 7 mph.) I am sure that with more experience it will handle even stronger wind. If I have to say something negative about it, it would be the fact that it is a little hard to take off from ground beacuse of the steerable gearnose that makes it frustating. The hobbyshop who sold it to me said to bring it over to have it adjusted but I have been a little lazzy to drive up there. But I personally enjoy handlunching it just because I try to fly it over the grass just to avoid any hard crash and the event of making any human novice mistakes.I just want to add that I spent a month practicing on a simulator. I recommend to do that first. Not only if you decide to buy this plane but for any first plane you want to get. It helps a lot.
