Are they like 3M green or maroon pads? Do they wear out? are they harder than the steel of the knife (scratch)? scouring powder?** A: their like rubber erasers with fine abrasive. Their not like the 3m scotchpad if that is what your referring too. They last for a long time but they do wear out over time. The abrasive HAS to be harder then the rust and steel otherwise its a useless product. **Q: Can I leave them soaking? Will it deteriorate?** A: don`t soaking...just little water with knife and than sharpen a blade... **Q: Can i use these to clean spyderco sharpening stones?** A: I use the medium white one to cealn my suehiro water bench stones and it works great so it should work fine on the spyderco items. The fine red one is only good for getting rust off a blade after you used the white one. For stone cleaning use only the white one **Q: Is it really necessary to use a medium and a fine? Thank You!!** A: It depends on the amount of rust or scratches. For heavier abrasions it's easier to start with the medium and finish with the fine.
