Welcome mortals to the Silver Tower…
*This review is for the game itself not comparing it to the original Warhammer Quest*If you love Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2Ed. and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, this is for you. Warhammer Quest Silver Tower it’s a great dungeon crawling action with lots of possibilities. In this game, which can be played from one to four players, you must gather the 8 fragments of the Amulet of Tzeentch and defeat the Gaunt Summoner trials.Pros:The adventure book comes with 90 passages or “encounters” that will test your heroes when completing the 8 trials. This adds variety and challenge to the quest. Also unexpected events can occur depending on the dice, so there are plenty of challenges. The game scales up the difficulty when more players are added (with more players playing the game, more enemies will spawn).Cooperative gaming:Work with your friends to conquer the secrets of the Silver Tower, or take the glory for yourself - characters carry over the skills and treasures they have earned in previous games.*An important aspect is that there is no “Overlord” or “DM”, the player who has the Tzeentch token, activates the monsters. This can be a pro or a con depending on your likes.*Extremely detailed miniatures:This box comes with 51 beautiful detailed miniatures.Every room in the Tower has his own rules:These rules are represented in their own card when exploring the dungeons. These add other effects or conditions, in addition to the 90 passages and the unexpected events.Expansions and hero app:You can use heroes that are already released in Warhammer Fantasy or Warhammer Age of Sigmar. At the moment, you have to buy that character stats in the free App “Warhammer Quest Silver Tower My Hero” for $0.99Cons:Some miniatures were strange and difficult to assemble (Acolytes and Tzaangors)Do you have what it takes to venture into the Gaunt Summoner trials and work together to claim his boon, or whatever you desired! Will betray your companions and try to win the treasures to yourself? One thing is certain, if you fail your quest you will become a prisoner forevermore in the horrors of the Silver Tower…….

Some people may enjoy it but I personally felt it could have done ...
Game tries very hard to provide an engaging story with fluff descriptions of every scene and I appreciate that. However, my wife is more of the hack'n'slash type and usually skips through the story portions. Assembly took a while due to the huge number of miniatures. Gameplay itself is very simple and mostly involves taking a step forward and rolling dice, similar to a slightly upgraded version of the D&D board games (the board games, not the tabletop RPG). Some people may enjoy it but I personally felt it could have done better.Packing in the box was not done well and my game manual and some cards were damaged due to internal shifting during shipping.Overall, seems like a money grab attempt by GW because of the ridiculously overpriced expansions. Skip this and buy the card game version from FFG instead.

Great game, amazing variety, simple rules, sometimes too easy.
This game is amazing amounts of fun and thanks to Amazon it is even affordable. The tile pieces are extraordinary quality, as are the miniatures after grueling hours of assembly. The game is overall very enjoyable and the rules can be picked up in under five minutes when taught by someone already versed in them, it has some rooms with fantastic events that mix things up but ends up suffering from enemies that can be too easy to defeat if you have a decent party of players. So far I've run through 7 missions and we are about to fight the last trial, only been wiped out twice (terrible roles that resulted in way too many enemies getting spawned while also ignoring the rule about only using as many figures as you have).Should mention that I got some damaged cards in the box and Games Workshop immediately got replacements shipped out and received within the week!

Bought as a gift and the recipient is very excited ...
Bought as a gift and the recipient is very excited but I'm bummed it arrived a bit dinged up. Also, inside the box, the cards were just loose all over the place, bent and some damaged. And the figurines, 2 were broken off. We're going to have to see if we can even fix them with glue. Bummer for the cost this was not in pristine condition and in tact inside.

Repackaged and missing items.
Not new, CLEARLY repackaged and shrink wrapped. Cards show wear. Missing one of the exploration cards. Have an extra hero card and an extra set of the miniatures. So if someone buys the other one and is missing half the game, thats why. I understand If it's a storefront and guys the boxes. But clearly it's not the case here.

Dice heavy game with a few too many random encounters
After many (mostly) fun hours I have finally completed The Silver Tower with my 9 year old son. I had tried to play it with him when he was 7 but he really struggled with the tactics. I think 9+ is a suitable age.Briefly, Silver Tower is a cooperative dungeon crawl for 1 to 4 players. There are 9 Trials (missions really) in total, each one taking 1.5-3 hours depending on how the dice behave. You have a selection of 6 different heroes who are mostly unique their abilities but have the same basic mechanics. You can bring anywhere from 2-4 Heroes, and my recommendation would be 3. Technically the game is balanced around any number of players. The monsters sometimes scale up based on player count, but for too often it's a flat number that is just too many for 2 players and too easy for 4.COMPONENTSComponent quality is excellent IF you like model building. I wasn't sure if I did but nevertheless I used plastic cement and super glue and frankly I found it very finicky and even still little bits would come off my models. Storage is a big issue, you can't just dump models these in a box as there are so many tiny bits of plastic that will get damage. I glued magnets on the back and stuck them on a cookie sheet. But the room templates, player cards, artwork, and the manual were top notch GW stuff you'd expect. It is quite immersive seeing these minis in action. I did not paint them, but if I had I'm sure they would look even better.GAMEPLAYThe game is played similar to most other dungeon crawlers. Each hero rolls 4 dice, and each dice can be used to make an action; Move, Attack, or Heal. Each hero has varying chances to hit enemies, and they all have a special ability of some kind. When the enemy hits you, you have a chance to block/defend based on your defense stat. Standard stuff. This of course means you are slaves to the dice.Everything is determined by a dice roll. For example, there is a boss can do up to 18 damage in one hit, or it can do 0 damage. Random events can occur that can be beneficial or unwinnable. There isn't a lot of room for manipulation of the dice. The flipside of this of course is there are some turns where your characters are unstoppable killing machines. One of our party had an ability that let them attack again on an attack roll of 6, leading to a chain of multiple attacks that just about killed the boss in on round. Each of the Trials do have some inventive rooms, some were frankly hilarious, but in the end you are going to be fighting four monster types A LOT: Karic Acolytes, Grots, Horrors, and Warriors of Tzeentch. The duration of the game is very unpredictable as depending on how many extra enemies are summoned through random encounters or in fights themselves the game can really drag on. This is not an attritive game where you have a large health pool that slowly ticks down, but one where you can instantly lose if the dice go poorly even in one round. When you take wounds, your character becomes weaker (you get less dice to roll). To heal those wounds you (often) have to use actions that you'd otherwise use to defeat enemies. So you get a snowball effect that once you start losing, you start losing hard. You can be rampaging through countless monsters for several rooms in a row and suddenly find your party with three wounds a piece staring into a rather deadly room.Progression between trials is limited. After each trial you get a single Rune which you can use one in a trial to heal yourself or reroll your dice. You also can get up to 4 extra Skills, but these are much weaker compared to the skills on your hero card. Some are extremely good (Evade) and most are terrible (Jaws of Death). You will not get any new weapons or armor in between or during the levels. You might get treasure but searching for treasure puts you at risk of dangerous ambushes and generally isn't worth it because all the treasures are single use items. In 9 Trials we found only 3 treasures out of a deck of 20+.The manual is vague, especially when it comes to respite, resting, passing your turn, rerolling Destiny Dice, and the interaction of some Skill cards. You will have to come up with some rules on your own for these instances.OVERALLI have a hard time recommending Silver Tower given its exorbitant price. I think Warhammer Quest the Card Game, Gloomhaven, or Mice and Mystics are probably better value for the money. But if you are a die hard Warhammer fan and like chucking dice there can be some fun to be had here.
