Believer's Bible Commentary: Second Edition Hardcover – Illustrated, April 5, 2016

I personally knew both the author, William MacDonald, and editor Arthur Farstad. MacDonald as president of the Bible school I attended in the early 60s and Farstad as a fellow student there. I first gave this commentary to our 4 children when it came out in one volume and now to our 14 grandkids as the come of age. I gave it to 5 of my grands this Christmas. One of them said he read the section on Romans 12 which was to be ministered on the following Sunday and another even brought to Church that same Sunday and showed me what he had discovered in maps section that he had been looking for. I have found this is a great commentary for teenagers and young people who are transitioning to their own serious Bible study. It is readable in modern language and contains enough material to adequately cover each verse. Though a large volume, as opposed to Halley's Bible Handbook, it is not overwhelming as opposed to some of the older commentaries such as JF & B or Matthew Henry. I HIGHLY recommend it to Bible students of any age.

I have to wear reading glasses and even with those some books have fonts that are still just too small, the lettering too close and run together or something. The font size, style and spacing are perfect in this commentary. The pages aren’t too thin and are just right. Also they have added the Greek and Hebrew alphabet, along with other pages with maps and other great resources. I wish it would have gone into more depth on some passages such as Romans 8:29-30. But, it’s still a great resource. Well worth buying.

I have been using this as a supplemental commentary for the last five years. It brings out points that other commentaries don't make. Makes things more understandable. So useful in my facilitating a Bible Study group.

It took me about 4 years to read and study this tome, but was well worth it. Many questions developed over 72 years were answered. This book provided the background I needed to better understand the Bible and it’s history.Now I’ll start reading more in depth the individual books of the Bible.
