A Man Alive is undoubtedly a new career highlight for Thao & The Get Down Stay Down. This album presents a fiercely original group sound that is rife with experimentation and playfulness, singalong choruses and ass-shaking beats.

Thao. please marry me!
I discovered Thao and her merry band a couple of years ago. I love her songs, her band, her videos and her albums. I've been to see her 4 times (in 4 very different situations) and she's been great every time. The Get Down Stay Down grows and shrinks every time I see them but the core seems to be the handsome, laid-back bassist, the portly but energetic and spot-on drummer and the totally hot and talented keyboard lady. Others seem to come and go. Once there was a tall skinny trumpet playing guy and an equally tall and equally skinny fiddle playing girl. Lately there's another guitarist who doesn't really add much. "A Man Alive" is Thao's most cohesive offering to date, with lovely melodies and solid beats. The songs, apparently dealing with her non-relationship with her absent father, are emotional, literate and honest. I love this album and I play it over and over. The only album I like better recently is Shiina Ringo's "Sosho Strip", but that's apples and oranges. I like apples and oranges. Look at that picture on the cover. Besides being immensely talented, Thao is also beautiful. Marry me, Thao!

Thao and TGDSD are one of the best bands out there
Thao and TGDSD are one of the best bands out there! This album is simply a must-have for any music lover. A lot more sound exploration and experimentation on this than her previous albums, but still stellar. Thao puts so much emotion into every song that you can really understand the depths of the themes she is singing about here. That being said, the album pales in comparison to their live shows, but is still worthy in any audiophile's collection. Don't even give it a second thought, buy it, it's awesome! :)

Ready for different?
Take time, space and sound and tear it all up then reassemble, recallibrate and find yourself in the dimension of "Thao & The Get Down Stay Down." I first heard her on Austin City Limits. ''Thao & The Get Down Stay Down" is a great band.Fun to watch live! Don't expect anything like you've heard before.

Thao is amazing !
This is a wonderful and innovative gem ! Thao & The Get Down Stay down are an extremely talented group. Thao is the most talented and innovative of all the young performers of this generation. The only weakness here is that it is not a live performance. Thao is a visual joy.

I just downloaded the whole CD and Endless Love is the last song and the one the resonated the most. Thank you Thao Nguyen. True artists usually leave people guessing, doubting and expecting the same. You push your envelope and I look forward to whatever's next.

Pow! it's Thao! (& the get down stay down)
I was in a record store looking around. They were playing this album. It's sometimes strange, but always catchy and interesting. I hope to see these guys live next month. The album sounds like these guys would be a good live show.
