2007 definitive double CD retrospective. This handsome 39-track set delivers the ultimate selection of the veteran group's output for Chess / Checker, Mercury, ABC and 20th Century, spanning their golden years 1966-1981 and comprising Northern Soul staples 'Run for Cover', 'Wear It on Our Face' and 'Make Sure (You Have Someone Who Loves You)'; perennial classics 'Stay in My Corner', 'Oh What a Night' and 'Give Your Baby a Standing Ovation'; extended seven-minute workouts 'I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself' and 'All About the Paper'; mellifluous love songs 'I Miss You', 'The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind)' and 'I Touched a Dream'. They've even found room for 1975's 'I'll Be Waiting There for You', recently sampled by rapper 50 Cent.. Universal.

Now It's Time for a Real Boxed Set….
My only regret is that this isn't a 6 or 8 cd boxed set. All the cuts are great choices, and I'm sure the compiler's biggest problem was deciding what to leave out. Universal Music, Rhino, Shout Factory! or whoever, PLEASE step up to the plate and let Richard Shearling do a real box set with a big book and EVERY cut that matters. The Dells (and their fans) deserve it!

Love that old "soul!"
Got the cd for the song, "Make Sure You Have Someone Who Loves You" Had the "45" and could never find it anywhere else. Stay In My Corner, Love is so Simple, and, Always Together, my favorites too, but I already had on Greatest Hits cd. Does Anybody Know I'm Here, (also a great song, but not on this cd... on Album "Bring Back The Love" if anyone's looking for it.)

Standing Ovation: The Very Best of the Dells
If you are a product of the sixties, you will remember the many nights submarine watching with your favorite lady. Great music, great memories.

Stunning vocal extravaganza
Don't bother reading my other reviews, as they all concern Metal/Hard Rock. However, I appreciate any genre of music, if played/sung well.I'm so so glad to have found The (Mighty) Dells.Of course, I know The Temptations, The Four Tops, Isley Brothers and The Stylistics etc and these are a mixture of all of them, but, dare I say, BETTER!!The stunning vocal combination of baritone and tenor is sensational.Marvin Junior's vocals (lead baritone/lead vocal) sends shivers down the spine, must be arguably one of the best soul singers ever.Similar to Levi Stubbs (Four Tops), but with more aggression and extravagance. It's 2 CD's covering their music from 1966 to 1981.CD1 from 1966-1973 (this is their more classic soul period) and CD2 from 1973-1981 (which develops from classic soul into the late seventies disco groove). Both sides are equally impressive, but I personally prefer their early to mid period, but you can decide when you listen to this wonderful 15 years of music splendour.I absolutely love this album and the metal/rock can take a back seat for the next few weeks.Highly recommended for people who enjoy soul or anybody else that just loves supreme vocal talent.

Wow!
Saw a Youtube clip of the Nicholas Brothers dancing to the Dells classic Run for Cover and it brought back lots of great Northern Soul night memories. This double cd is a classic and great value for money.
