Francois is a hard working husband and dad that gets laid off from his job. None of his efforts to get another job succeed and he is forced to use what he has, including an old bicycle, in order to provide for his family. With the help of his "black sheep" brother, a bicycle shop owner and a pro-cyclist, Francois makes some life-changing discoveries about his life, career and faith in God.Although a fictional story, Break Away, was inspired by true events around the recession that left people without work. The message brings hope and offers practical and Biblical solutions in a very entertaining way.

I don't feel it was Christian based, more cycling based if you ask me.
As a fan of cycling in general I really enjoyed this movie. This isn't some high budget movie though and they really did well with what they had. The story was realistic. There is reference to Christian values however in some parts, however it's mostly about a guy trying to support himself and his family after losing his job. The acting was a bit corny and amateur. But it was nice seeing something a bit more real I guess from all the fancy movies I've been watching lately. I think as a cycling fan you might enjoy this. But if christianity offends you for some reason you might not like it I guess. I personally don't get offended when people don't reference God, or reference God in some movies. Many major blockbusters acknowledge God in some way so in this instance it was minimal. But the ending definitely emphasized God, but all throughout the movie it was more about a guy just trying to get back on his feet.

Decent family movie with inspirational message
Wasn't a blockbuster movie but the acting was fairly decent and the plot was very realistic and inspirational. Definitely worth the watch. Man loses job. Man makes mistakes. Man tries to figure things out. Man has support of family and friends. Man looks to God for help. Things seem bleak. It all works out. You know... life. The main message is: use what you have in your hand, work hard with passion, and you'll get a break through.

Positively Inspiring to its final minutes
So many movies have a simplistic view of success: "Struggle some, then overcome to live happily ever after". Thankfully NOT Breakaway! The movie's story line is so realistic, it could apply to almost anyone at one point in our lives. But rather than just leave us in our misery, this one causes us to reach deeper and higher than we could ever imagine until we start doing what we can, one small step at a time. Whether win or lose, the objective becomes to try hard no matter how tough the troubles in this world come at us.This movie connected to depth of suffering and pain, while calling us to go forward no matter what the consequences. Watching this made us feel we can grow our character, no matter how rough we have it at the moment! I think most executives and managers would be inspired by the theme and breakaway from fear, to achieve much more with our lives!Awesome movie!

This could be a great story. . .
The basic premise, that of a man who is forced out of his career and starts a bicycle delivery service to support his family, could be moving and inspirational. However, the wooden dialog, uninspired acting and reliance on cliched, predictable plot points makes this movie unbearable. When you hear about a bicycle race, you know what is going to happen. When a pair of expensive bicycle wheels get stolen, and the protagonist's brother just got out of jail, you know what is going to happen. Plus, did I mention that this movie is sponsored by a bicycle manufacturer and their most expensive bike is positioned almost as a second hero? Worst movie I have seen in years.

Anything is possible with God !
A wonderful story that is inspiring for anyone going through hard times. It was a little difficult to understand the accents at the beginning of the film, but worth watching as the story pulls you in. Beautiful scenery. Loved how the story of Jesus using five loaves of bread and 2 fish to feed the multitudes is compared to using the one thing you have to rise above your challenges with God's help. Faith is emphasized throughout the story. Great family movie.
