Q: can you paint in this, or will it just soak through

I sometimes spray paint mist the page when doing paint marker artwork. It holds well. Just dont soak the page in paint. Apply mist and let dry and apply again as needed.

Q: can you use sharpie or staedtler ink pens, or will it soak through?

Sharpie on this type of paper soaks the sheets and bleeds through to the next page. Bic markers spread out significantly on this paper. Paper mate pens, staedtler, and arteza fineliner pens do not bleed through. Crayola and other waterbased markers do not bleed through, but they do warp the paper a bit if you do more than three layers. Darker colored ballpoint pens can be seen on the opposite side of the paper if you use both sides.

Q: Can the book open all the way? with no difficulties?

yes! it's just heavy so handle carefuly: not fragile book but don't toss or open-close roughly. mine opens each page all the way to the last.

Q: How Is this big boi with Charcol & Charcol pencils?

I do not use charcoal but I imagine the tooth of the paper is pretty good for the materials. I have used oil pastels and colored pencils with no problem.
