Engaging Musical Practices: A Sourcebook for Middle School General Music Paperback – March 23, 2012

I use this text as one of three written sources for my Seconary Methods course. I love it because the individual chapter authors were selected because of their research background, but everyone also has classroom experience in the topic they present in their chapter. It truly is a source-book providing ideas that foster creative unit planning of undergraduate level Music Ed majors in the course. The references in each chapter not only contain further readings in the given curriculum area, but also adjacent readings by well-established pedagogues. The text will continue to support them during student teaching and beyond.

Essential book for middle school music teachers. Creative lesson ideas that are substantive and will engage immediately.

Very informative for the adolescent psyche. The book could use more of a lesson plan format. I am still left wondering what exactly to teach middleschoolers.
