Lore has it that he chose the site because of the unique soils loaded with limestone and shale. The terroire is defined by rocky soils with an abundance of minerality caused by its location on the San Andreas Fault. Maritime climates that provide the grapes a long growing season giving flavor complexity to our portfolio of wines. Our vineyards are home to approximately 130 acres of wine grapes and 25 acres of olive oil trees and our largest planting is Pinot Noir. We still have a block of Zinfandel that was planted in 1905 and many of our vines are over 40 years old. At Pietra Santa our wines are made using only grapes grown on our estate. Our goal is to make wines that represent the best of our terroire while focusing on the true varietal characteristics of the individual grapes. We begin in the vineyards where we use sustainable farming practices to coax the best from our fruit. We farm for low yields, which gives our wines rich and extracted flavors before our Winemaker, Alessio Carli begins his magic. He combines artisan winemaking techniques such as hand harvesting and clone selection, extended maceration, and barrel aging using specially selected oak barrels, with state-of-the-art equipment that gives maximum control for every bottle of wine we make. "There are no shortcuts to quality." -OWNER/FARMER CORT BLACKBURN
