Adventus is the Latin word for arrival. And so Cody Canada and the Departed emerge with their first original album. Upon the disbanding of Cross Canadian Ragweed, The Departed took root; Cody Canada and his long time Ragweed band mate, Jeremy Plato on bass and vocals, with Seth James on guitar and vocals (Seth James Band, Ray Wylie Hubbard), Steven Littleton on B3 organ and keys (Live Oak Decline, Stoney LaRue and the Arsenals, Medicine Show) and Chris Doege on drums (Seth James Band, Nashville touring acts). The band members had spoken reverentially of each other's musicianship before getting together almost two years ago. But make no mistake; Adventus is anything but a relic of the past. It rocks hard, it burns in the Southern sun, and it represents a new era of creative growth, tapping into the eternal emotions and sonics that have informed the great American musical styles from the start.

Are they better than CCR?
First off, I came to the Cross Canadian Ragweed party late. I mostly listen to blues and classic rock. But my wife is a native of West Texas, so she always wants to listen to country when we are together. Slowly I determined that all country is not created equal. Turns out there is a lot of it that I like. I'm thinking it was just about the time they were breaking up that I discovered Cody Canada and the boys of the "new" CCR. This was a brand of country music that I could really get into. I really, really like Cody's voice. So finally late last year I asked for Box of Weed for Christmas, and those 5 recordings have spent a lot of time on my play list.So this past week I discovered that Cody and his new band, The Departed were coming to town in a month or so. I want to go see him bad, so I figured I had better give a listen to some post CCR music, and ordered up Adventus. 3 days later I have listened to the entire CD 5 times though. To my tastes, they are every bit as good as CCR - maybe better???As much as I love Cody's voice, the variety of having other lead singers on some of the songs is a real plus. Not to mention the rockin lead electric guitar of Seth James! Of course, now I hear that Seth left the band, so I'm not sure what to expect from the upcoming live show. Once again I am late to the party. But that has nothing to do with this recording which is awesome!

Still miss Cross Canadian Ragweed
I'm a huge Cody Canada fan and love to hear his voice on new music... but it's just not the same as the rockin' sound CCR had. However I am enjoying this CD. Hearing different voices step up to the lead vocalist is nice. These boys are great musicians. I would recommend buying, just know that it is more mellow than a lot of Ragweed songs.**Update as of 6/7/13**Okay I need to say how great this CD is. Seth James has an amazing voice and just kills it on this CD. I am so hoping The Departed comes to Oregon so I can see this guy live. Still love Cody's voice but it totally changes their vibe to have another singer. And I think Jeremy Plato sings lead on one of the songs... Hobo... and I like to hear his voice too. Just really impressed and the CD grew a ton on me once I listened a few times.

Instant Classic
This album is (for lack of a more enthusiastic word) AMAZING. There isn't even one song that I've skipped over. It's been in my car for a few weeks now on a constant loop. I have enjoyed it so much that only having it in the car wasn't enough, so I downloaded the mp3 version so I could listen to it in the house on my ROKU through the Amazon Cloud. Every song is rich and soulful with just enough grittiness to give it the amazing country/rock edge of their previous bands. Will be purchasing more copies as gifts this summer!!

Amazing CD and an amazing band!
Amazing CD - so happy to hear these guys continuing to play music and make new music. Very disappointed to hear Seth James leave them so soon after they had started together. Some amazing songs on the album - part of what made it such a nice treat was the different sounds with his vocals on the CD and allowing Cody to just hang back and play guitar or back up vocals.Love the CD - listened to it a ton. Hopefully I can get to see them play live at some point in the near future.

another great album from a great band
loveit this is a great album. Every song is very good and so glad that Seth is singing on this one. Beside being a great guitarist he is a fine singer and songwriter. buy it you will not regret it.

Harder than expected.
Well crafted and structured. Starts out rocking pretty hard and then a good mix of music. Would like a little more of the mid-tempo type tunes (Cross Canadian Ragweed). Still, no bad songs and good to listen to the whole album. I would love to see these guys live. Definitely one of the better alt-country rock bands around.

Excellent Southern Rock
I saw this band perform at a free concert series and they were awesome. They have excellent beats, guitar and vocals. It reminded me of other classic southern rock (Lynyrd Skynyrd). I highly recommend for anyone that enjoys southern rock.

Stadionband
Wettpartner gesucht...

Another Uncut discovery
I heard the track "cold hard fact" on the Uncut cover CD for April and bought the Album quite cheaply as a punt. It worked out as the music is right up my Alt Country Street. Speculate and buy this.

ADVENTUS
GRANDE CODY CANADA!
