Dead Point and Jack Irish
Peter Temple has created a really likeable world weary hero in Jack Irish who gets into the tightest scrapes without really trying and then gets out of them by the skin of his teeth most every time. Peter also captures some of the patina of Melbourne's Brunswick in glorious description. The "Youth Club" are a delight and instantly recognisable in real life in more than one location and the thrill and colourful characters on the Victorian racetracks should get more than one person saying "Is he writing about me?"I couldn't put "Dead Point" down once I started it, looking forward to Book 5!

Another Excellent Jack Irish Story!
In this story, Jack Irish and Cam are avenging a bashing, after one of their racing schemes. This book is written in the usual brilliant Temple writing of Australian vernacular:'Detective Sergeant Warren Bowman had the good humoured manner of a man in sales...motor spares or plumbing... Some secure line of work where the pros know stock numbers off by heart and the customers expect them to say things like 'Almost got me there mate' and 'We have the technology' ' 397/5209Another excellent and satisfying read!

Very good Austarlian based read
The plot was well structured and the locale (Melbourne) was described perfectly. Have now read all the Jack Irish books and have really enjoyed all of them.

Another winner from Peter Temple
Just a terrific mystery story set in the interesting town of Melbourne. The appeal of Jack Irish is enduring, and Temple writes so beautifully. Strong novel.

Love this character- and the book
I love the humour and the pathos and the 100% accurate portrayal of Melbourne- as well as the storyline and the dialogue between the characters.I particularly love Jack Irish himself and the others - like his sister Rosa, Cam Delray and Harry Strang and find them all very entertaining. I just wish there were more than 4 Jack Irish books! Keep 'em coming Peter Temple!

For me reading Australian authors is like reading translated Russian Authors
For me reading Australian authors is like reading translated Russian Authors, only with Australian authors it's the expressions they expect me to understand. In Russian it's the names.I like his stories and his main character a lot. I find, for me, they are more entertaining in a movie than a book. But hey, I do both, double the entertainment.

Melbourne in its glory
This series is outstanding - pure Aussie. Melbourne has never been done better and the characters are sharply drawn and well defined. The setting and dialogue is so well done it is like being there in the bars and cafes. A very good story which is a page turner. I hope Jack continues for ever - unconventional but one of the great literary inventions.

Peter Temple
He's done it again! With economy of prose, words evolving like gun shots. I have hardly put this book down. His capture of,the Australian vernacular along with his 'nailing' of the ironic humour synonymous with footie tragics in Victoria is very funny but never impinges on the rapid evolving story of the crime thriller. Hope he has the elixir of youth so that he keeps on writing Jack Irish thrillers.

A Great Read !
It is some time since I read a Peter Temple novel, and in particular a Jack Welsh one at that. From beginning to its end it was a first class crime novel; set in Australia with levels of criminality one would not necessarily believe was extant in Oz this novel kept me entertained and absorbed throughout. As in all Peter Temple novels you get a great read every time. Thoroughly recommended.

Oh! Jack Irish!!
Yes indeed, Peter Temple - and his creation Jack Irish - really are an addiction. This is my seventh and I'm not sated yet. The dialogue - I know I keep saying it but its laconic honesty is superb - and the vignettes of place, spring from excellent observation and the ability to make them shine. Plot, as ever, leaves me confused, but gives me a reason to re-read, so no complaining.

Solving Shady Substance Shenanigans
Jack Irish, all round good ole Oz bloke has once again become involved in solving some seriously shady crimes. Inbetween fitting a library, hooking up with an old flame and losing some money on the ponies, he continues to frequent Melbourne cafe life and get beaten up again. Not to mention the Saints on a losing streak . .

Great thriller
A different location, a different type of hero, a different type of situation and well written: this is a real page turner, journey book and a thoroughly exciting read.

Dead Point
I enjoyed this book, more probably than "The Broken Shore", but perhaps that's because I've got used to the style of writing.

Brilliant
Love the plot twists and characters and most of all the Aussie humour. Can't wait to read the next one. I wonder if there are solicitors like Jack out there. I hope so...

Jack Irish, Brunswick's best!
Gripping story, the story's characters can be identified as unmistakably true blue Aussies with their mannerisms and language. The Harry Strangs and Cams are all around us, and Jack Irish has to be either the most unfortunate, but at the same time luckiest down trodden, badly mis-read, lawyer going.Looking forward to more yarns like this.

Great Import
Peter Temple is a hidden gem from Australia. We all like a different character to develop and Temple has created a dandy here. For far to long his books have been unavailable here and I welcome them. He has written several different books and I would suggest you try them all.
