Worthless and unsafe
I bought this basically to guard the kitchen at night. Yes, we clean our kitchen nightly before bed but I live in southeast Texas which is a subtropical area and there are TRILLIONS of bugs. Seems like a clever idea; a bug zapper that works as a night light and just plugs into an outlet. Well, let's go over the pros and cons. Let's do the PROS first since that's a shorter list. The photos should give you a good idea of what you get.PROS: ?CONS: First, the instructions. There are none. The only instructions are what they print on the bag and there the company directs you to consult an electrician or look online. I looked online. In fact, I went to MuchBuy.com and they didn't even show this product on their own site let alone have any instructions for it.Next, evidence of safety testing. Another zero. In the photos, you'll notice a severe lack of any labeling on the unit. The only label on it is a hologram sticker written in Chinese. Doesn't help me since I don't read Chinese. There's no evidence that this meets electrical safety standards in the US, Canada, or Europe. So where did this gizmo come from? China. Safety standards in China? LOL! These are the guys who painted our children's toys with lead based paints and sold us toxic dog treats, remember?Speaking of safety, see in the photos how large the openings are in the cover plate. A child (or adult) could EASILY put their fingers in there while the unit is on. The cover plate is piece of plastic that simply snaps (and I use that term loosely) into place in 4 peg and hole sites (one at each corner). Will removing the "safety grill" (I'm being very generous with my labels now) shut off the killing grid? NO! There are no safety switches installed in this unit anywhere. Also since I mentioned UL, this has a 2-prong plug; meaning it's NOT grounded. In the US, I thought we went to 3-prong grounded plugs back in the 1970's.Well, maybe it will attract and kill bugs. That's what we got it for, right? LOL!! again! It was believed for sometime that LED lights did NOT attract insects. This unit uses 4 LED bulbs as a lure for flying insects. HA! Well, OK. More recent research indicates that the spectrum of blue in LED lighting does attract insects; although, no where near as effectively as UV bulbs do. Maybe blue is the secret. So they put 4 BLUE LED bulbs in here as a lure. I ran this light all night long in one of our bathrooms were we had a couple of flies and in the kitchen where there would likely be flies also. Not ONE SINGLE KILL. Not a one! Flies? Yeah, there still buzzing around but they aren't drawn in by these 4 blue LEDsIf they were though, they'd be dead as a stone, right? Again, I doubt it.Tonight, I tested this gizmo out on a genuine pest insect. I found a roach in my garage that had crawled through the D.E. that I had spread on the floor. As a side note, for crawling insects diatomaceous earth (DE) is pretty much 100% effective. So the roach wasn't going to live long anyway. I picked it up with some tweezers, turned on this unit and touched the dying roach to the grid---NOTHING other than a smallest wisp of smoke. The unit does not have enough power to kill an insect which is what it's marketed to do. For a comparison control, I took the roach and then touched it to the grid in my Stinger Cordless Rechargeable Insect Zapper and got the classic *SNAP!* that signaled the instant demise of the pest.Sorry, gang, but I did as thorough of a review as I could on this and took plenty of photos so I am left suspecting that any high star reviews are from the seller's minions because there is no way this unit is worth your time and money.I suggest you approach this whole thing with caution. I cannot recommend this product
