Thick Cord Mayan Hammock XXL "NATURAL COLOR" in COTTON

This hammock is SOOOOOO comfortable. I absolutely love it and would buy it again in a second. I am not a fan of the thin cord Mayan hammocks, so I hunted for one of these, with the thicker cord. Hammock Boutique has been extremely helpful in terms of answering my questions, which were many. I could tell they wanted me to be happy. I'm happy to report that I am. One of the things they counseled me on was the size. I was under the impression that I should buy a hammock to "fit me," for myself. That's what I had before. They counseled me to "buy the biggest hammock you can afford." I was skeptical of this advice, thinking it might be just a ploy to get more money in their pockets. But they were right! I see the light now. With a large hammock like I bought, I can lie any way I want in it - sideways across the thing if I please (and often do!), and every position is wonderfully comfortable.I cannot recommend this hammock highly enough. I have made several friends get in it, and they have all then not wanted to get out. They have all said they intend to buy one after trying mine.

I really want to love this hammock. It arrived clean and in good condition and it is reasonably comfortable. I chose this higher-priced thick cord Taino-style hammock over a regular Mayan hammock (knowing I may be sacrificing some comfort) because I figured something marketed as heavy-duty would stand up to higher levels of use. In that respect, I am disappointed. From my first use I felt threads popping and assumed that it was a normal occurrence and that as the weakest threads popped the remainder would hold up to the tension. Unfortunately, I do not think that is the case; every time someone gets on the hammock threads start snapping! The photo on the hammock listing says the hammock will support 1,540 lbs and the listing text says it will support 880 lbs. That may be so, but I wonder for how long. Minutes? On my heaviest days I am under 135 lbs and it seems to have trouble supporting me. My children weigh even less than I do and the threads break when they use it too. (The photo with the heel belongs to my 40 lb five year old.) I consider this item to have a very limited life span and I am afraid to even try washing it. I would have rated it higher because I know someone put a lot of time into it, but for the price it should have greater longevity.
