loved this story!
This was a fun story to read. I loved the banter, and red hot chemistry between Sadie, and Eli. The other characters in the book drew me more into the story, making it a enjoyable read. Eli, and Sadie did not like one another in the beginning of the story. They irritated each other, at the same time red HOT chemistry kept pulling them together. Sadie had a hard childhood. She left and never looked back. she moved around a lot, helping people along the way. She became a counselor. It was her way of helping people that felt they had no way out. When she was a teen, she wished someone would have been there to help her. She has giving lots of advice over the years. No it's time for her to take her own advice. Time to go back to the place, and face her ghost, and past. She has never stayed in one place for long. So huge when she signs a 5 year contract to open up a bed and breakfast. First day back in town she runs out of gas, and it's Eli who stops by to help. He was the one guy, she was hoping she wouldn't have to see. He was the one who arrested her when she was teen. Eli is not too happy to see her either. It's funny when he finds out his brother least the old home out to her. Now he will have to see her all the time. No review will do this book justice, this is just a book you have to read. Here a few samples of the book.sample from chapter 6 - "oh, really? I thought you acknowledged that I had you over a barrel." She tucked a strand of blond hair behind her ear and arched her brow as if to say, Gotcha. No. Way. "Oh, no, baby," he said, not sure where the endearment had come from or why it had rolled of his tongue, but he didn't stop to try to figure it out. "You may have me in a position where I have to be willing to consider your idea, but make no mistake, it's you who has the most to lose. I don't have to do a damn thing, and I'm the one with his name on the title for this chunk of earth. So if you want to play, you'll play my way." Sadie felt an unfamiliar surge of raw, unmitigated anger course through her veins. This was not her style. It was not her game. She didn't do toe-to-toe shouting matches. Not with men, not with anyone. no. She did yoga. She meditated. She had a pottery wheel somewhere. That she never used, but still, she had outlets. Outlets that were not screaming like a child. Here is another sample from chapter 6 -she also didn't know how to process that she was inches from his face, his tie clutched tight in her hand, as his dark eyes blazed rage into hers. Rage and something else. Something hotter. Something that looked a lot like the fire burning in her belly felt. And then... and then he dipped his head, his lips crashing into hers. And that's what it was. a collision. It wasn't a testing, or a tasting, or anything tentative at all. It wasn't nice, or fun, or easy. It was gasoline on a lit match. An instant conflagration that had gone from spark to out of control at the moment of contact. She had no idea what was happening, only that she didn't want it to stop.

Sadie and Eli made me smile
I loved 96% of this book. Literally loved it…except for two passages that were so unnecessary that they made me want to cry in frustration. This is my first book by Maisey Yates but it won’t be my last. She creates a strong heroine in Sadie. Sadie is an educated, professional, beautiful woman who takes stock of her life and decides she wants to go home to Copper Ridge, OR. She decides to open a B&B which will take her in a totally different direction than the path she has been on as a crisis counselor. The B&B that she plans to open is on land that she’s leasing from the Garrett family. The Garretts are Connor, Eli and Kate. Sadie has previous experience with Deputy Sheriff Eli from her youth and they don’t start off on the right foot when she returns home. That’s as much of a synopsis as I’ll provide since others have done so with accurate detail. So, here’s what matters to me. The heat was great. There are several bedroom scenes and these are consistently well-written without crossing any lines. They are quite descriptive and while they might have made me jealous, they didn’t make me uncomfortable. Again, hot! The characters were genuinely nice people with a little baggage in their lives. But they handled it rather than let the baggage destroy their “nows”. I loved upstanding Eli and quite frankly was amazed that such a rule-follower could be so adventurous between the sheets. Anyway, Sadie and Eli fall unexpectedly in love over time and it’s a pure pleasure to watch. These are two very caring people. They care for each other, family members, their community. The secondary characters including Connor, Kate, Jack, Lydia, Ace and others were equally interesting and I suspect they will feature prominently in their own books. The dialogue is exceptionally good and the author interjects humor and zingers from time to time, making me laugh out loud. This book has the perfect balance of serious issues (familial and spousal abuse) and light-hearted times (watching the deck construction, poker games and the barbecue.)This could easily have been a 5-star book for me but it loses a star for two reasons. First, Sadie says something to Eli during an emotional moment and it seemed forced. Nothing to that point indicated that Sadie felt a certain way on a specific topic and slinging blame at Eli was out of character and unrealistic. Second, Eli does the same thing to Sadie late in the book. Things are coming together nicely in their relationship and in their lives and then someone (a minor character) does something dangerously stupid at a gathering. For some reason the author had the even-tempered, logical, loving Eli react in a manner that made no sense, placing blame on Sadie. Zero sense to me.Every other part of this book was delightful and I really did love it. I’ll re-read it often…skipping over those two parts because, truly, those parts total 4-5 pages and they are minutiae when considering the book as a whole. I’m a tough grader, though, and they prevent the 5-stars I would have otherwise given this book.

Love this author
I am a new-found fan of Maisey Yates writing. I have spent countless hours looking through ebooks on Amazon and I am genuinely disappointed about 8/10 times I purchase a book. If they aren't written well they are expensive and have 150 pages. It is seriously concerning how literally anyone can write a book and sell it on Amazon. Editing is basically optional these days.I am not a reviewer that walks you through the plot, I tell you how amazing the story was and that's about it. So here goes:This. Book... Just wow. I'm a serial "free booker". I like books that are free or cheap. I was scared to buy this because it was more than free, obviously, and besides that point, I was worried about content and whether or not it is written well. This book is so well-written I am now on the third book of this series and plan to read right through this one and start another from this author. The characters are well-developed and I felt that the author did their stories justice with her writing. If I had to choose a flaw, I'd say that throughout each book the story line is different but they are always hiding their romance from their loved ones. Literally, in each book this happens. It doesn't really bother me but that's the only downfall I had. Someone complained about language and honestly, the language is not even bad at all. The occasional f-word is said but otherwise, not bad.
