When it comes to the Monkees, this is a often celebrated, but seldom understood, group of talented performers both on stage and in music. What started out as a simple concept for a show quickly evolved into the best example of art imitating life... or was it life imitating art? At any rate, the masses demanded the Monkees go on tour and BE the band they purported to be on television. This talented group of performers who sang on those early hit songs answered the bell and became that band the fans wanted and have gone on to celebrate 50 years performing as that band when the fans came calling. It's really a better story than the traditional garage band origin.Unfortunately they were overlooked during the golden years of action figures when Mego ruled the shelves of toy stores around the country (and world under other names). But just like the underdog Monkees, Figures Toy Company has stood up against the odds and answered the call on the group's 50th anniversary and delivered both 8 and 12 inch figures in various vintages. The 12 inch come in one format which celebrates their iconic cranberry colored shirts and grey pants. The 8 inch figures come in those outfits as well as the Monkey men costumes plus iconic suit and tie wardrobe best remembered in the classic shot of them posing in their actor seats. Today we will be reviewing the 12 inch Davy figure.The head sculpt for Davy is admirable here and comes close in many ways. I do believe the hair could have been a bit longer in back since Davy tended to wear it longer, but that may be too critical to the process here. The paints on the 12 inch are done reasonably well here. One point worth mentioning is they do remember to paint Davy's eyebrows thicker in this scale, where they missed that important feature on the 8 inch. The outfit is beautifully tailored and fits the figure exactly as it should to convey the look from the 60's. He also has the well designed belt that looks exactly as the ones worn from the show and displays with striking detail. Also comes with rubber molded boots that fit nicely and permit the figure to stand soundly. The body is the standard 12 inch variety and exhibits no issues in this scale. Fully articulated in the wrist, elbows, shoulders, waist, knees, and ankles. Head turns nicely with no limitations. There are no musical instruments included.Also comes with the standard 12 inch backer card with beautiful artwork on the front and a overview of the entire 8 inch line on the back as well as a nice picture of the band performing in their iconic outfits worn for this 12 inch series. Also comes with standard clam shell case that can properly hold and display the figure when not in use. Destined to be a huge collectible and is already selling out on many sites.
