CTS Certified Technology Specialist Exam Guide

It's an industry book that I wanted to get for a certification I never decided to get.

The book arrived on time and I haven't put it down since. I've read from other users of this book that it gives a false sense of confidence for taking the test.. I'm not sure how true this is or not, but this book is filled with a lot of information that I feel is needed to truly get grasp and understanding of the industry; especially for newcomers like me.The e-book cant be downloaded, which is a shame.. But the test can be.. I haven't tried any of the bonus material as yet.. but I feel I am ready to have crack at the test after reading this book.. Wish me luck.

I haven't sat for the exam yet but this should be an integral part of anyone's preparation for the CTS exam. The information is thorough, well written and complete. I have greater confidence in my breadth of knowledge after reading this book. It really helps fill in the blanks.

I am studying for the CTS General and found this book to be very helpful. I really like the layout of the material and would recommend the book to anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of the audio/visual world.

I will be taking the test in a couple of weeks and feel I am better prepared because of this text. Plus it is an excellent reference and will probably go back to it when I need a refresher.

I found much of the information in the book helpful for taking the CTS exam. I passed with a 94%. I read the entire book and took all of the quizzes multiple times. I also downloaded the practice exam listed in appendix A. All of this was in addition to using all of the materials on the Infocomm website. I have been working primarily with audio for live sound and broadcast for over 20 years, but much of the non audio information was new to me. Especially the business side of things.

I took this exam today 4/15/2013, I read this book cover to cover, the two practice tests that come on the CD (Which i never scored below 84% on, most scores averaged in the 90s), and I printed out a practice exam from the infocomm website which is 50 questions long that I took multiple times. Through all of the preparation using these materials I felt very confident going into the tests, I prepared for months to make sure I had everything covered. I ended up receiving a 333 out of 500 on the exam, needed at least 350 to pass. The test format on the CDs aren't accurate with the actual test. It isn't completely multiple choice there are questions that ask you to select correct items or locations on a diagram. I am highly disappointed with the $70 I originally paid for this book, and the $400 they charge to take the exam if you are a non-member of infocomm. I would suggest going a different route in preparing for this exam, online courses are definitely probably the best route to go, Appendix B in this book has some crucial material for the test, but you can learn that in the "Learning AV Essentials" online course. Highly disappointed, listen to the negative reviews on this item and find another way to prepare. I also included this info in the InfoComm survey I was asked participate in after the test.

I've studied for other certifications (MCSE in particular), and the books and study materials prepared me pretty well for the actual test. In this case, the practice exams and review questions in the chapters seemed like they were for a different generation than the test I took.While I passed the certification exam, and this book did help, the topics covered in the book and practice exam only seemed to mesh about half the time. I went into the test feeling pretty sure of myself, but after about ten questions that seemed to come from deep left field, my success wasn't all that certain. It's better than taking the test cold by a long shot, but I wouldn't depend just on this source if you don't have several years of experience in AV already.
