Rock Of Ages Original Broadway Cast Recording

First off i am not a musicals fan. I love music, but have never been a musicals person. I saw this show in Las Vegas at the Venetian with some friends and i am so glad that i did. The show is a truly wonderful experience, and i recommend everyone to go see it. That being said the CD of the Original Broadway Cast is just as good. I believe that the cast is faithful to the source but think they let their own talents, and skills shine as well. The songs are brisk, and catchy just as they were when we all listened to them back in 1987. The additional dialogue added into them guides the listener through the trials and tribulations of our leading man and leading lady Drew, and Sherri as they discover love amongst the neon of Sunset Strip. I absolutely love this CD and there is a bit of a bonus at the end which i enjoyed immensely so let the CD run on the last track. Hope it was helpful.

I didn't get to see this when I was in NY recently (I went with Phantom and Mamma Mia instead) but the concept intrigued me so much I decided to order the CD.Basically what they did was take the Mamma Mia formula (which consists of taking well known songs and coming up with a story that ties them all together) but in this case they used songs from the MTV generation (Poison, Journey, Pat Benatar and a whole slew of other acts which were popular in the 80's)After listening to the soundtrack a few times, I came to the following conclusions:1) All that music we grew up listening to in the 80's... STILL ROCKS!!!2) I now have to see this show... 'cus from what I can tell from this cd, it completely and utterly kicks ass!!!DISCLAIMER - Uh,I mean it kicks as in a Broadway musical/Hair Metal kind of way, of course...if you were expecting Metallica or Accept songs you WILL be disappointed.But if you enjoy these jukebox musicals AND this kind of music, then are you in for a treat.Enjoy!P.S. If by the end of the cd you feel you have NOT been rocked hard enough,then keep listening...Enough said.

I put soundtrack in capital letters because most of the negative reviewers here were under the impression this would be an awesome 80's rock compilation. These songs are from a Broadway show and are sung and cut the same way they are in the show. I listened to this CD before I saw the show and I thought it was ok, some real good sounds, but some songs were cut off too early or weren't very rockin'. After seeing the show my opinion of this CD skyrocketed. Now when I listen I don't hear covers of 80's rock songs, I hear the play, and it's awesome.They added a lot of production to this CD, changing lines from the play to fit an album, instead of a show, creating even more laughs. The songs bring back memories of the situations in the show and make the songs rock that much harder. And for a treat, don't turn off the CD after the last song finishes, hang out for a bit for a bit more rocking out hidden in the last track. Enjoy!

This hard-rocking soundtrack is one of only two Broadway albums that are on my workout playlist for when I visit the gym. Lots of energy in the 80s themed album, with lots of hair band anthems represented as well as a few of the hard-edged ladies of rock. I love the album and FINALLY got to see the show on Broadway just yesterday (12/26/14) and as impressed with the live quality and volume.

I was fortunate enough to see this show on a recent visit to NYC. Heard so many positive reviews about it, I simply HAD to go! Was I disappointed? Not in the least! So this CD is a killer shot of good memories of a great time. Beyond that, the way the songs have been mashed together is really something to hear! I will admit, it takes a bit of getting used to how it's done, especially if one came of age when these songs were all over the freakin' airwaves. But they work, and will likely have you smiling in remembrance of an age of excess. Buy it for the nostalgia, alright? And if you were lucky enough to actually catch the Broadway show in person, you'll snicker quite a bit when you hear the actors' lines thrown into the songs, 'cause some are really priceless.

A few songs don't land, though all in all a great show.

To underscore the many hits that came out of the late 70's & 80's, all by those who forgot there are barber shops, can relish these tracks from one of Broadway's surprise hits of 2009. Taking a cue from 'Mamma Mia', again, we go from one scene to another utilizing rock classics to give us a story. The faithfulness of the song interpretations are dead-on. To those who may want to buy this cd, once you listen, will make you want to see the show. It is spectacular to see.5 Stars for this release!

Great show, great album. A must for anyone who likes tongue in cheek, 80's glam rock, with a hint of Broadway.

I have never heard the cast recording before or even seen the show. It came over as very exciting and beautifully recorded. The guitars are amazing and the vocals are first class.

i bought this and i love it

Fantastic, play it in the car all the time at full blast, and bearing in mind I am in my 60's I get some funny looks!!! but who cares. This is far better than the film version with Tom Cruise as the story has been changed in that and it is not as good.

having seen the musical the cd is the next best thing to being there, it brings back every memory the music is BRILL.aLSO THE SERVICE FROM AMAZON kINDLE IS EXCELLENT ARRIVED THE NEXT DAY so did not have to wait long before i could start listerning to the music.

I went to see the show in the west end it was fantastic, the theatre were selling the CD at a very inflated price so decided against buying it. Later found it on Amazon and have been enjoying it ever since.

I was a little concerned that this was the US cast and not UK, but was very pleased with the presentation and would recommend this to all Rock of Ages fans!

Rock Of Ages I bought this CD after seeing the show down in London. And although the cast that was used for the recording is from the Broadway production, the voices are almost identical. It arrived promptly, and sounds great. Rock Of Ages
