Universal Devices ISY994i ZW PRO INSTEON/Z-Wave Automation Controller (1024)

THE BEST Home automation appliance anywhere. It does just about anything. Speaks INSTEON/X10, Z-wave, Zigbee (separate unit) and and talks to anything you can get on a network-- like my SONOS, my MiFi lights, etc. Works best with an Elk M1 Gold via an ethernet interface and expands what you can do with that hardware. Modules are a bit pricey, and of course you have to be investing in some good automation hardware, but if you've made that decision, this is absolutely the brains your house needs. Customer service is great via their website and forum-- they are actively developing the system and using the community to decide what gets built next.

works like a charm, like every controller made by the Universal Devices Team. Have not used the Z-Wave , but insteon works impeccably. Would I buy again? For sure, great controller, of lights, AC, motion sensors etc etc..... ISY makes it easy enough for the novice to have a well working complete control of smart home modules, switches etc and is nimble enough to allow the most daring and experimented programmers to develop outstanding solutions for home and business applications. Do not be fooled by its compact size, this is a powerful device.

This box is very hard to configure and requires using Java and bypassing security on your PC, in not compatable with safari or microsoft edge browsers, (only legacy internet explorer).and does not come with a Z wave controller, so that would be an extra purchase, and an expensive mobile app to control it also requires an extra purchase. The software that runs on java console or browser is terrible and does render text clearly and is buggy.I feel thoroughly ripped off after reading people say this device is a value. it was not only a waste of my money it was a waste of lots of time.

Love It. I have been trying to find a standalone controller for all of my Z-Wave switches and outlets and this really hit the mark right on the head. After trying some cheaper, and some more expensive, units this truly does everything I need and much more.

This is our third ISY99/4i. Each time it was to upgrade to another version with Zigbee or, in this case, Zwave. Very solid product.

I actually bought this through Smarthome.com, but am o pleased I had to write a review here. This is the BEST device for controlling Insteon or ZWave and any other protocol like ZigBee. It is powerful, robust and works perfectly. Now, it IS working with Insteon which functions over the power lines. Anyone who has worked with Insteon can tell you that it can drive you crazy at times. That is not the fault of the controller however. I had one ToggleLinc that would not link to this device and could not figure out why. I removed it and plugged it into an outlet, not for the faint of heart, and it linked fine. I returned it to its intended location and it continues to function fine. The problem was in certain commands that use the radio capability of the newer Insteon devices. I also have a phase bridge wired into my main breaker panel. Again, this is all Insteon issues.I have been doing home automation since the X-10 days. This device is replacing Houselinc on a computer. I passed on the Insteon Hub because it did not appear to support random On-Times so the lights come on at a slightly different time each day.This unit has a great deal of power in what it an do. You can solve most problems two or three ways. Now, the price for that performance is that this device is not for people who are uncomfortable with computers and modest programming. If you have used something like Houselinc before you be fine, but there will be a bit of a learning curve. That being said it is an investment that is well worth. The support part of their web site has a WIKI link to documentation that is more than thorough. There are programming examples from simple to mind blowing. I have used their support extensively to solve some Insteon problems. I contacted the through email and it worked very well. May be the best support service I have ever had and that is saying something. Definitely browse the documentation on the web sit4e before you buy and if you find it intimidating, buy something more plug and play, but you will not be able to do most of what this thing can do.This is a solid, reliable device that does what it says it will do backed up by a great team on support.
