Morandi's Objects - A Spiritual Journey
This is a beautiful book both from the standpoint of the printing and content. The photographs were taken of different objects in Morandi's studio. On first glance they are just simple pictures of objects against the same background. But as you view them you are taken to a different world. You look beyond the object into its essence - to paraphrase the great American photographer, Edward Weston, when he wrote about his famous photograph of a pepper, it is a pepper that is more than a pepper. In other words, the picture goes beyond the objective world. For me, looking at the pictures in this book was a spiritual journey.

retrouver l'univers de MORANDI
Très beau livre sur les peintures de MORANDI. La photo se confond avec le tableau et on retrouve toute l'atmosphère du musée de Bologne.

Like meeting old friends
Giorgio Morandi's art is timeless. As an admirer of Morandi's work, in particular his 'natura morta', Meyerowitz captures some 'old friends' with his technically outstanding images. The backdrop and plane is consistent, each object being laid at the same position on Morandi's drawn table. Familiar objects in familiar surroundings. Meyerowitz in no way tries to recreate these objects as a photographic Morandi still life, he treats each individual object to scrutiny, to be scrutinised, more like an artistic mugshot....an identity parade. It works, I feel. The volume is superbly produced, however I do feel the brevity of the texts add little to the book. Nonetheless a worthwhile addition to the Morandi bibliography.

sorry
I was shocked after looking at this book, where I used to have a huge admiration for the photographer, after seeing the photos in this book I do not know what to think anymore,it is not only this book, but also the book about the studio of Cézanne that is adeapointment. A rush job that will sell because it is linked to two famous names. Where you expect a feast for the eye, all see are the same uninspired, identical lighting. I had expected the photographer to adjust the lighting each time for the specific object in order to get close to the painter's magic.
