Don't buy this product. The second day the light stopped working but the sound was still there. The birds seem to laugh as they continue to bang my window. Did not include special screws needed to mount it!

Do not work on the 5 obnoxious cats from next door
I have used smaller ultrasonic pest repelers in the house for at least 10 years. I'm in the south where bugs are a given, but, I might see one in the house every couple of months, and it will be staggering around seemingly disoriented. In some months when my neighbors are overrun with bugs, I don't have them in my house. I use other deterrents, as well, but I credit the ultrasonic units for the bugs being almost non-existent. So, I was hoping these animal repellers would be as successful with the five cats from next door. They are obnoxious, intrusive, and never see the vet, so I'm sure they are diseased. The problem is they prefer my yard to their yard, and act like they live here although I do nothing for them. They are tearing up my screens from jumping in the windows. These repellers have no effect on these cats. They don't even look up. They are just as destructive as ever.

Scares them away
I like birds, but I don't appreciate them bothering our koi fish. Our realtor gave us one of those owl statues because they are supposed to be scared, but the birds at our house aren't fooled. I purchased this in the hopes that it would be more effective in keeping them away. The unit has a light that flashes and a speaker that omits a loud noise that sounds like gunfire. You will need 4 AA batteries (not included) to operate this. You will also need 2 standard size screws if you plan on mounting it.There are 2 modes, night and day. In day mode it will always play noise, in addition, at night or low light hours, it will also flash light. In night mode sound is omitted during the day and only light flashes at night. It's recommended to use the night mode if noise is a concern. I chose to use the night mode since we live in a residential neighborhood. This works by using a motion sensor which then activates the light, noise, or both (depending on the setting) to scare the birds away. This thing is seriously loud and definitely startles the birds and anything else that goes near it. I wouldn't recommend using this anywhere near an area where your pets might be because this can't differentiate between birds, animals, or people. This certainly deters the birds from harassing our fish. I like that it's easy to use and cost efficient. I do wish it had a volume control. I know it needs to be loud to keep the birds away, but it would be nice if it could be adjusted.I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest opinions and feedback.

Not Recommended For a Quiet Residential Area
I purchased this product to scare away birds that were attempting to build a nest underneath my raised deck. This unit is rather large and bulky, considering what it does. The design is not all that flattering, looks and feels cheap, and is quite conspicuous, so it's hard to mount in a way that it blends in with the environment. The description says it emits a sound to simulate a shotgun, but the sound is of such a low quality, it sounds more like really loud, stuttering static. I did not test the unit in the night, but I could see the flashing lights working well. My biggest issue is that the unit is very loud, and I live in a quiet neighborhood; somehow I thought this was ultrasonic, but in any case, the low-quality sound was embarrassing, and would draw too much attention (and be a nuisance to neighbors). Even in an open area, it simply doesn't sound like a shotgun. Ended up returning the unit; just didn't work for me.

Oops, this one doesnt have the ultrasonic method I thought it did!
I have several of these kinds of products and, unfortunately, have become quite knowledgeable about rodent control. Like many people, I have pets and kids, so the idea of a non-toxic, non-dangerous deterrent is attractive. My particular problem is small field mice because I live next to forest. I hate killing the little buggers because they are so cute. But I also don't want them in/under the house. So far, I have had success with this product. When I plug it in and put my ear right by it, I can hear a little sound, so I know it is on. I have glue traps under the house and some video cameras with motion sensors. So far, since putting in ultrasonic repellents, I have not seen any evidence of a single mouse (or spider, oddly).I have other devices like this that come with tons more options and features and are usable outdoors. This one is not for use outdoors (I wish that was included in the description). But I really like how simple this one is. I would feel comfortable plugging this in at my mom's house and not worry that she would be calling me all the time with questions about it. It is plug in, aim and forget. All in all, I like these things and I feel like they work. I received this one at a discount for my honest review. When I review a product, whether at a seller's request or just because I want to, I always provide the best review I can. When I have a problem with a product, I often try to resolve the problem with the seller or manufacturer before giving a negative review. I have found that often I have a problem with an item that is not representative of the overall quality (or the problem is my lack of understanding). I personally rely on product reviews so I hope my reviews are helpful to anyone trying to decide whether a product is right for them.
