Good Book: Lots of good instructions for level of play, good advice and good graphics.

Regardless of one's levell as a backgammon player, this book is written in such a way that one can LEARN from it. Chris Bray's expertise guides the reader through all the complexities and hazard of the game CLEARLY. When I first started to play backgammon, I purchased the book and in a year's time, not only did I win tournaments, but also won regional championship status, as best Intermediate player of the year.

Today I just gammoned my computer opponent!!!I am a novice player (@ the easy level & forget doubling... baby steps). But my computer game opponent plays cutthroat (he rolls double 6s three times in a row) & I get double 1s or 2s.*Remember HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey? I think they're related!! He just crushes me - at the EASY level!!I love this book, there may be hope for my game play!*'Prime an anchor, attack a blot.' I'm learning & I gammoned!!Life is good! Great book (I like the humor). Helps with the sting of losing to a computer!

Bought along with A Backgammon board game. Have not read the book, but the recipient finds it helpful. We are both just learning the game.

Okay, I have two copies (don't ask) of The Backgammon Book by Jacoby and Crawford, a competent and informative (if somewhat dry) tome that aided me immensely thirty years ago.So why this one?I got it because it was recommended to me. A fresh take, my friend said.Well, yeah, it is. It's a little snappier, more modern, and of course well-illustrated; but more to the point, it talks to the reader. It's more of a conversation than a textbook. That's true of most of the Dummies books, I suppose, so nothing unique.I recommend it most to backgammon newbies; old-time players can also benefit. A worthy addition to any serious player's library.

Having never played the game before this book walked us through it with ease. For now most of the book is way mort technical than we plan on getting but who knows in the future it might come in handy.

Well organized and breezy writing style. Good discussion of basic strategies and pattern recognition. Covers all areas of the game including openings, middle game, and bearing off as well as use of the cube. Discussion of advanced tactics and tournament play. Far more info than this “Dummy” will need for many games into my future. A very solid place to start learning the game!

El título de este libro es engañoso: No se limita a explicar las reglas y estrategias básicas para principiantes, sino también profundiza bastante en muchos aspectos del juego que son interesantes hasta para jugadores expertos.El mejor "primer libro" de Backgammon ha sido durante muchos años "The Backgammon Book" de Jacoby/Crawford.Este libro es igual de bueno, y lo pone al día con lo que hemos aprendido desde entonces, sobre todo de los programas basados en redes neuronales artificiales.

Diese Buch enthält sehr viel Informationen. Es ist definitiv nicht nur für Anfänger. Man bekommt einen sehr guten Überblick über das Spiel und es geht in vielen Bereichen in die Tiefe. Sollte jeder gelesen haben.Einziges Manko, sehr viele Links sind total veraltet. Muss dringend überarbeitet werden. Bei der Backgammonsoftware wird extremegammon nicht mal erwähnt. Kein ernsthafter Spieler kommt an diesem Programm vorbei. Daher ein Stern Abzug.

Antes desse livro tinha lido muito pouco sobre gamão, apesar de estar bastante viciado no jogo. O livro expõe o básico do gamão e dá uma boa introdução à teoria de utilização do dado de dobrar, o que é bastante útil. Ainda não terminei, mas já acho que meu jogo melhorou bastante.
