LIBRATON Pex Cutter 1-1/4", Pex Pipe Cutter, PEX Tube Cutter 1/8" to 7/8"

I bought this PVC plastic pipe cutter because I got fed up with the cheap "standard" PVC pipe cutters which ALWAYS have issues with the ratchet mechanism. This pipe cutter cuts through PVC like a hot knife through butter. The only drawback - if you can call it that - is the cutting blade is stated to be a "consumable" item and the manufacturer says it has to be replaced periodically. However, if you're not a commercial pipe fitter who uses this tool daily and is a typical "weekend warrior", the blade will probably last for a very long time.

The Libraton ratcheting PVC pipe cutter is a genuinely impressive tool. The build feels solid in your hand, the ratchet mechanism engages cleanly, and it slices through PVC, PEX, and similar plastic pipes with very little effort. Even at larger diameters, the cut stays straight and smooth without crushing the pipe. The handle action is comfortable, the blade tracks well, and the whole tool feels like it’s built for real‑world use rather than light hobby work. I picked up this Libraton cutter set for some plumbing maintenance, and overall, it is a very complete and budget-friendly kit for DIYers. However, it's important to set the right expectations regarding the materials it can handle. ​✂️ Cutting Performance (The Pros): ​PEX & Thin Pipes: The main scissor-style cutter is very sharp out of the box. It slices through standard PEX tubing smoothly, leaving a clean, square, and burr-free edge, which is essential for leak-proof connections. The spring-loaded handle is comfortable and reduces hand fatigue. ​The Extras: The fact that it includes a mini rotary tubing cutter (great for tight spaces) and three rolls of PTFE (Teflon) thread seal tape makes this a fantastic starter bundle. You get a lot for the price. Limitations (The Cons): ​PVC Warning: The description mentions it cuts PVC, but you must pay attention to the word "thin". Do NOT try to force this cutter on thick Schedule 40 PVC pipes. You will likely crack the pipe or chip the blade. For thick PVC, use a ratcheting cutter or a saw instead. For the everyday homeowner working primarily with PEX or PPR piping, this kit is a 5-star value. I'm deducting one star simply because the marketing regarding PVC can be slightly misleading for beginners. Highly recommended for specific materials!

If your a plumber cutting tons of pipe a day, this tool is probably not heavy duty enough. However, if your just a DYI'er, who only needs to cut pipe once in a awhile its great IMO. I had zero problems at all with it cutting 1" and 1 1/2" pipe. Cuts were easy, clean and reasonably straight, better than I could have done with a hack saw or reciprocating saw. Also, no shaking of the pipe at all, like a saw would have done, as I had to cut a couple leaky joints out that were in place, I didn't want the whole pipe vibrating like crazy.

Old PVC pipe cutter's blade failed after about 15 cuts due to teeth that moves the blade failed. Decided to purchase this higher end replacement. This cutter had high reviews, so spent more money to get better tool First use was to make a couple cuts in 3/4" schedule 40 pvc tubing After just the second cut the tool failed. Operating the squeeze handle failed to close the blade This was exactly the same failure that my previous cutter had. Poor design, the cutter functions by moving a very thin blade by engaging teeth on back side to lever. The teeth wore down in the first use. After extensive research, it seems most PVC cutters use this same poor design. The cutter "gear" wears away with little use. Did not return because it was not worth the effort to drive to the closest drop off center, and determined other cutters, despite the price, were no better because of the similar poor design of the blade operation. Lots of better ways to cut PVC pipe: Hack saw, SawsAll, Skil Saw, Miter box, and Battery powered Cutting tools. Note: I purchase a lot through Amazon and have always been satisfied - first unsatisfactory experience. This product deserves my Rating of 1 Star

Nicely packaged -- a thoughtful (and utilitarian) touch to use the three rolls of PTFE (aka Teflon) thread tape as padding to stop the contents moving during shipping. The tools themselves are reasonably sturdy and not of a terrible quality and the package provides a good combination of tools. The description says "up to 1-1/4-inch" and "cuts various plastic materials (PVC,CPVC,PP-R, PEX, PE, Rubber Hose etc.)" but I purchased for use on just two sizes of PVC (1/2" and 3/4") and didn't find it easy to produce a consistent square cut on just a few cuts of either size. Not even securing the pipe in a grove on a benchtop, to keep it straight and prevent moving, gave better results and in an effort to cut all the way through the 1/2" PVC pipe in one go I got my hand a nasty pinch for my troubles. The tool is not of the ratcheting type so, if you can't cut all the way through in one go, there will be movement and the cut produced is unlikely to be parallel all the was round or orthogonal to the length of the pipe). The movement may be less on pipes that fill the jaws/cup and your technique may improve with practice. For a very small number of cuts over time it may be worth persevering but I'm inclined to seek out an inexpensive alternative with a ratcheting design. Impressed enough overall with the brand though that I will definitely check out if they have such an offering. UPDATE 19-FEB --- adding a star for quality of manufacturer/seller response. Very impressed with the sellers interest in the feedback and in making it right. As I mentioned in my initial review the difficulty was one of usability (especially for infrequent home use) and the lack of an ratcheting offering by the same brand for a reasonable additional outlay (there was a huge step up in price for the least expensive ratcheted version, which was as expensive as the larger and more expensive option that could handle wider pipes). The seller followed up to understand the usage challenges to see if they could help but unfortunately I'd glued the cuts as I'd finished the project. However, as part of my response I gave some feedback about the usage challenges and benefit of a ratcheted option at a price point reasonable for those who would use infrequently (with comparisons of price for options available from lower cost hardware retailers). They appear to have taken that to heart with a significant price adjustment for the lowest cost ratcheted product they provide, so I will be returning and getting one of those instead. Clearly, this is a seller that has great interest in the quality of the products they offer, understanding customer feedback/concerns and then providing exceptional customer service to make it right. The products have a good build quality and I would look very favorably on purchasing from this seller for any future needs.
