For new device + old TV, NOT old device + new TV! Converts HDMI to RCA, not the other way around
Contrary to what many reviewers claim, this product does NOT convert RCA to HDMI! It does the opposite. It does not let you play your old games on your new TV. It lets you play new games (that have an HDMI output) on older TVs that have no HDMI input, only RCA input. Read the product description details and ignore any reviewers who claim otherwise. I cannot speak for how well it does its intended job, but I can attest that it does not carry an RCA signal from an older device to an HDMI input on a newer TV.Update 9/18/16: The seller was super nice and offered to refund my money. I still can't attest to the product's performance since I wasn't able to use it, but I can tell you that it looked well made and sturdy, high quality; and I can certainly attest to the seller's excellent customer service. If it doesn't work for you they will refund your money, and they are very nice about it to boot.

... the basement which only has AV/in/out capability - Works great! don't expect it to magically give you HD ...
I used this little gem to connect my roku 3 to my old CRT TV in the basement which only has AV/in/out capability - Works great! don't expect it to magically give you HD on an SD TV.. Some of them menus and widescreen views don't come through like they should, but it does the job and I didn't have to spend $75 bucks on a different streaming device to play my amazon movies or upgrade my TV.The USB cord that comes with the device is really short and poor quality and I don't think the unit was getting adequate power because it kept "skipping" ever 10 seconds or so. I swapped it out for one of my spare phone chargers and that corrected the issue.

Wrong aspect ratio for 4:3 TV.
I've been using this for my classic floorstanding 4:3 40' Mitsubishi CRT. It works fine accept for the aspect ratio. For some reason, it keeps showing a deformed aspect ratio. Sometimes but rarely it will show up fine in 4:3 but most of the time, the picture is deformed (the left and right sides are compressed). This issue kind of defeats the purpose of this converter. Mostly all wide screen TVs have HDMI.

Didn't work for me.
The unit I received only produced a "No Signal" output to my TV. I know the message came from the CSRET unit, because when I switched the signal type from NTSC to PAL, the message image quality changed. I tried several HDMI inputs from different computers with no success. Also tried different RCA cables. Thank goodness for easy returns.

It Did Not Work BUT WITH SERVICECONTACT?
It did not work for me. I tried two different sets of cables and different resolutions. All I could get was audio with a no video signal I upgraded this since the service department has contacted me several times trying to determine why it did not work. The said they will test it to find out why it did not work. I have a Thinkpad x240s and maybe it has something to do with this laptop.

It does work and is easy to use
I bought the converter going the opposite way of what I wanted but I will save this for someday. It does work and is easy to use.

Did as it states!
Did exactly what it says it does! Takes a second at 1st, but then BAM! In your face action! Of course, since you are using a rca cables, the quality is most definitely not gonna be superb and bright as just straight hdmi. But in my setup, I'm using an old receiver that doesn't take hdmi as my other 1 was going tits up. But nonetheless, it's up. Running and I couldn't be happier!
