It is a very dense book and a wealth of insights and one has to keep it by the bedside to review parts of it every night to even have a smidgen of understanding of the the deep spirituality that is being conveyed here by a very enlightened Western Sheikh, for us non-arabic speakers and not on the Sufi Path. Yet. I would call him one of the Gifts of the West to Islamic Sufi understanding, just like Muhammad Asad, a Jewish convert in the earlier part of the last century was called for his contribution to bring Islam and it's depth to the West.Sufism is a path that I intend to explore as much as Allah Ta'aala induces in me. It is a path where the self and ego is annihilated. And Lex Hixon brings it out in depth, the depth and devotion that is needed to have Enlightenment/Knowledge of The Divine Unity in this book.Excellent read for starters on the Sufi Path

In this book you can find the real depth of Islam and Sufism and the organic connection between them. It's a kind of treasure chest, grounded in sound scholarship, in direct spiritual transmission from a lineage of Sufi shaykhs, and in decades of immersion in world religions, which the author considered to be different expressions of one reality. The book itself is more like a series of experiences than it is like reading *about* something. You may connect with some parts more than with others, which is fine; there are different gifts here for seekers of love and knowledge with different tastes and at different stages in their journeys.

This book and it's poetry bring my heart to life each time and almost every where I open to it. It is more than mere words. Contemplation with it is not only true medicine for your own heart but is as in all true prayer a blessing to humanity. It has been my most loved and revisited 'spiritual' book for many many years.

this book was my first real initiation into the sufi tradition and it was a fortunate one.what distinguishes this book from any other book on sufism that i have ever encountered, is that it has what the arabic-speakers call "baraka". that is, "blessing", a kind of spiritual energy that can permeate a person or a place.this book, then, delivers not only infromation about the path, but a kind of energetic pull into the world of universal Islam and sufism.medicine for what ails us in this era. Nur/Hixon must have known we would need it.

Everyone MUST read this book at least once in their life time of earthly lease. This is Jewel in the Crown of Holy Books explained to people of all faith ,cultures and languages. This book will remain in demand until end of time. Whosoever is sincerely inspired to practice one iota of wisdom given in this book will reach Divine Presence.
