Use in place of a mat in the sink
This is a simple design that just makes so much sense. I have always had some kind of mat in the bottom of my sink to keep dishes from clanking around too much, but often times food strands would get looped around and stuck on it, making it a pain to clean up. This colander is soft enough to prevent that clanking of dishes, but also solid enough to easily lift up and spray off, allowing food particles to slide right off and into the drain catch (no garbage disposal here). It's also great for rinsing and peeling vegetables, creating a large surface area (your whole sink) for catching flying peels, which you can then slide right into the trash. It seems like a bowl-shaped colander would be just as simple, but this design makes a ton of sense for my work style in the kitchen and does double-duty as a sink mat. A great multi-tasking piece that has eliminated multiple kitchen inconveniences.

So glad I bought it
This simple tool makes composting a lot easier. I was using a metal colander perched on the sink to strain the vegetable peels and coffee grounds, and it was unsightly and ineffective. With the flat design, my composting is out of sight, and the liquid goes quickly into the drain. The spout on the edge is also very helptul for transferring the composting to its final destination. So glad I bought it. My daughter also finds it very useful.

Works ok for a bottom of sink tray
Purchased this somehow thinking that it was soft and would conform to the bottom of my sink so was surprised when it arrived and it was very much a hard tray that sat in the bottom of the sink. I never really used it as a colander since it seemed like things would fall off of it easily and a bowl shape collander would work better. I did use it for a while in the bottom of my sink to catch "junk" that I would have otherwise have to fish out of the drain instead- so did find it useful. But on the otherhand if I wasn't always emptying it, it always looked nasty because particles would be caught in it.

Somewhat disappointed
I was disappointed that it was very rigid. I think I was assuming a more silicon-type material that hugs closer to the sink. However, I will use it for a while and see what happens.

I'm going to buy another...a gift for my mom!
I saw this featured in a recent magazine. It sounded like something I'd be interested in (even though I have traditional collanders). I knew Amazon would have it -- and at a better price, too. What a great purchase. I was under the (wrong) impression it was flexible rubber-like, but it's hard and I can tell it will be durable. I peeled potatoes right onto it -- it gives full coverage in my sink -- and it was easy to slide the peels into the garbage. And it washes up beautifully. My mom's house has a septic system (no disposal) so I know this will make things easier for her.

Too small
Too small for my sink. Produce float around the outside and ended up in the drain. Good idea but didn't work for me.

This is a go-to kitchen tool!
I love this flat colander. When cooking meals that require more washing and preparing of veggies, I can set them all out and wash them at the same time. Since I don't have a garbage disposal, I peel potatoes and carrots such that the peels fall on the colander, making it easy to collect them and dispose of them. I use it all the time.

Handy in the kitchen
Happened across this in The Kitchn blog and thought it neat and intriguing, given that I am a bit of a hoarder of kitchen stuff. Did I need another colander? Um, probably not! Have I found this low profile little workhorse handy in the kitchen? Yep! It is great for spreading out and draining freshly rinsed veggies and increasing the speed at which meat thaws. Oh, yeah, it is also a decent colander. And, in a cute shade of green.
