Set up your mountain bike with with a double chainring set in a 2×9 or 2×10 or 2×11 configuration.  This combination at 38 teeth for the large ring and 24 teeth on the small ring provides a wonderful span and wide range — ideal for those folks that love the long climbs, and those that ride the bigger wheels. These are mountain specific chainrings sold as a set. These are rings are designed for a 104/64mm BCD attachment – like on a standard mountain bike compact crank. Some cranks with this bolt circle are made for the double – and these fit perfect. SRAM, FSA and others make cranks designed for 2 chainrings like these. However, if you now have a Mountain Bike Triple (3 chainrings), you can make the conversion to a 2x setup with these rings that love to shift. The standard mountain bike triple crank can feature 3 rings as with our triple set, but if you prefer a double, like many folks, these rings make an easy conversion without buying a new crank. Just get these rings, and the conversion tabs to fill in the space vacated by the old large ring – or use a bash guard in place of the large ring for drive protection. Either way, the conversion from triple to double is simple and can be completed without changing the existing mountain triple style crank.
