The magical world of Artimé is gone. The Unwanteds have no food, no water, and no hope. And everyone is looking to Alex Stowe for answers. Overwhelmed and feeling totally helpless, Alex knows it’s up to him to find a way to restore Artimé, rescue his captive friends, and free Megan from her voice-stealing necklace of thorns―three impossible tasks. But could help lie with the silent, orange-eyed newcomers? Meanwhile, in the stark land of Quill, Alex’s twin brother Aaron continues to build his army, preparing for the ultimate showdown with the Unwanteds. But a shocking twist reveals that Alex and Aaron share a common enemy more dangerous than either could have imagined... Review: Best book yet in the Unwanted series - We've been reading the series out loud to the kids. I've noticed that Lisa McMann's writing has steadily improved. The kids loved the first two books, but I thought the writing in the first one in particular was very clunky. The second one was a little odd, but the writing was better. This one is the best one yet - the kids still love it, and the writing has improved immensely - much less long description where an action would do, and better setup for the more suspenseful moments and surprises. You can't skip to this one (it won't make sense without the first two), but if you've started the series you should definitely continue it with this book.
