The beautiful image is worth the trouble.
I am really in a quandary about how to write this review and how many stars to give this camera. The camera frustrated the heck out of me for the better part of an afternoon. I just couldn't get my NVR to recognize the camera. I was within minutes of boxing it up and sending it back, when suddenly it started working. Once I got it working I was in awe of the image! It is crystal clear. The camera has a few features which I think need improvement, but the image quality offsets all of that. The camera itself is solid, sturdy, and heavy. It's not a cheap toy. The web interface actually works with Windows 10. Many other cameras won't. Once I got it up and running I quickly forgot about how difficult it was to get set up.

Good quality video plus 4x optical zoom, POE - only one cable, great software!
The media could not be loaded. We live in the middle of the countryside and for a few years now I have been using an IP security camera mounted on a homemade tripod to film wildlife in the garden. My last camera was a 2MP 1080p POE bullet camera and this served me well for a couple of years. Unfortunately, it was blown over in a storm and no longer works.I was looking around for a new camera and read somewhere that the newer 5MP cameras were producing much better quality video then my old 2MP camera. I saw this particular camera here on Amazon with a 4x optical zoom; perfect for my needs. Although there are not too many reviews on here for this product, it looked like everyone who had left a review was happy with it for the most part. I decided to spend the extra money; the 5MP sensor, POE, PC Client Software and 4x optical zoom being the deciding factors. The camera arrived well packaged, see the video. Inside the box: Camera, short Ethernet cable, waterproof Ethernet cable connector, small Philips screwdriver, fixtures and fittings, an allen key, paperwork and a template for marking the holes prior to drillingThe camera is quite a bit bigger than my old one and it is built like a tank; very solid and very reassuring. The allen key is used to adjust the camera position and it is used on a single point on the base. This allows the camera to be moved in all planes and is a very good feature. There is a cover on the back of the camera for a micro USB card, I never fitted one, but the facility is there. The camera comes with 24 IR LED’s. I was not overly impressed with the LED output, but they were adequate for most needs. As well as the connection for the Ethernet cable (POE) there is a connection for a power supply (not included) if you do not have a POE switch. POE is much easier as the Ethernet cable is the only one you will need. It is well worth buying a POE switch if you have long cable runs. My camera is connected via a 50m flat Cat 6 cable and the cable is passed through my bedroom window. The window closes easily over the flat cable and I have also used round cables in the same way, worth trying if you do not want to put holes through your home.Downloading the software was easy, however the link mentioned in the manual did not work. I just went to www.reolink.com and downloaded the software from there, see the video. I installed it, connected the camera to my POE switch via the short cable supplied and the software found the camera instantly – brilliant! I also downloaded the apps for my android tablet and iPhone, very easy too. By far the easiest camera I have had to connect and I have connected a fair number of them! The PC client is great, I go through it in depth in the video. It takes a while to find everything, but it works very well and has lots of great features. A huge plus is the fact that you can record directly to a hard drive on your PC. I record constantly and check my footage most mornings to see what visitors we have had in the garden overnight. I just delete older video as and when required to keep plenty of space. See the video for a good way to check footage quickly.I took the camera outside and mounted it on my homemade tripod using the 50m cable and waterproof connector, the connector is not really designed for flat cables, but the suspect part of the connector is hanging downwards, so water cannot get in. The image from the camera is good, but not as good as I was expecting. Super HD, 2560 x 1920 is not as clear as I hoped it would be. It is however, the best security camera image I have seen. You will not be able to see what it is like in this video, because Amazon compresses video on this site. I have uploaded footage on YouTube and you can see what it looks like in real life there. I had an issue with the IR night footage, my other cameras were seeing way further than this camera. Night footage was what I was most interested in and I was very disappointed until I found the video settings on the client software. I increased the brightness and the contrast and it was much better. The only problem being that the daytime footage was too bright! Reolink should alter the software to allow different settings for day and night. The clincher for me is the 4x optical zoom, we have just finished the Big Garden Birdwatch and this camera was brilliant zoomed in on our bird table, an extra pair of eyes.So there are a few slight negatives with this camera, but even with the extra cost I think it is well worth buying. POE is so convenient. The client software is free and would cost a few pounds from any dedicated software company. The image is good, not great, but the 4x optical zoom is brilliant. I think the camera is worth the money and I am very pleased with it.
