This was a nice mattress, but it didn't work out for us.
My husband and I bought this mattress in Nov. 2014 directly from Habitat Furnishings. There were no customer reviews available, but we took a chance on it anyway. I had been eyeing Habitat's beds for some years now, but couldn't afford one. So I was very excited to see they had added one in my price range. I was a bit disappointed that it was a hybrid and not all natural, but at least the layer that you lay on is all natural latex, so I was excited. At first, I liked it and my husband hated it. This was our first non spring bed, so we didn't really know what to expect. We just wanted to experience the buoyancy of latex and not sink like with memory foam, and we hoped to not experience the heat that a lot of foam beds have. We were also trying to avoid chemical odors because I am sensitive to them. When we first opened it, the odor was not strong, but later in the day, going into the room after the door had been closed for a few hours, we could smell something, probably the polyfoam. So we just opened the windows to air it out. The smell dissipated to an acceptable level within a few hours and was completely gone within a week, unless you got right up on the mattress and inhaled really deep. You couldn't smell anything just to lay down on the bed all made up for sleeping on. And to be fair, I think the waterproof mattress protector had a stronger odor, and for longer. From the very first night on, we both got really hot with this mattress. We tried removing the waterproof protector and using a regular one, and we tried none at all. We also tried different sheets and comforters. While it wasn't AS hot without the waterproof protector, no combination of sheets and or protectors or lack of protectors, none helped the bed feel cool. It was just a hot bed. I don't get hot easy, I tend to be cold all the time, so for it to make me hot is saying something. My husband is a different story. He gets hot easier than I do, so if it was only him getting hot, I wouldn't blame the bed. Now, about the firmness and comfort level ... the first half of every night, I was comfortable. But after about 3 hours, I would wake up hot, and I would have some pressure point pain in my hip and shoulder if I had been on my side, or both hips/lower back if I was on my back. I also had trouble rolling over from back to side. I think that was because of the pressure point pain though, not because of sinking into the foam. We tried a double plush mattress topper, and for me, it just made rolling over harder, I still got the pressure point pain. For my husband, he was just never comfortable on it at all. To him, the bed was too firm, period. We tried it on a sprung slat platform, and we tried it on the floor. The floor felt better, but hotter. One night, he tossed and turned, literally every 5-10 minutes for about 4 hours straight, until he decided to move our daughter in with me and take her bed for the rest of the night. She wouldn't even stay in it, she moved to the couch. That was when we decided to request a refund.
