The Oregon Trail

Great adventure for young readers
As some reviewers said, many poor decisions are very consequential, but I think they are fair to make clear for a young reader how a foolish action can be costly in such extreme conditions. Further, many decisions are more or less a decision to leave/postpone the trail, they lead to different endings but indeed there is no reason to the author extend their story.Risk management is at the heart of the book, and almost every decision is hard, even for adults! Stick to the plan, focus on the common objective, and have fun surviving this great 4 books adventure!

Unexpectedly enjoyable
I somehow missed the game growing up, but did read a lot of the Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid. This is a really light and easy read I did with my 9 year old son over a week or so. We enjoyed the narrative, illustrations and occasional laughs. Well done!

So much fun, and lots of options!
We stumbled upon the first book at a local store and my 9 year old loved it. So we ended up buying the collection from Amazon and gifting the first duplicate book. It isn't long and he reads quickly, but he reread it a few times to try to get the best results, so he started with it much longer than I expected. And even rereads it now. Each book has a helpful guide at the end which it recommends reading so you get prepared on what to expect in your travels. Really fun, and you feel like you are participating in the adventure. The map and guide insert is fun too, but not really necessary since the information is in the books. My kids have never played the original Oregon Trails games, but they had a lot of fun with these. I played it in class as a kid but don't remember enjoying it as much as reading these books. The game has almost every decision ending in dying from dysentery, but the book is much more interesting with well thought out options.

Great series
I remember playing the organ trail in school, so when I saw this it was a must buy. He ready these in a matter of days. Since it gives you the choice to take different paths, he was able to re-read and give him lots of entertainment.

AWESOME book set!
Yes, this is similar to the Oregon Trail video game! The books are so awesome with stories followed by choices which take you to the next part- you might succeed with either choice, fail with either choice (which means you have to go back to figure out where it went wrong), or only have one choice where you succeed. My 8 year old really really loves it, and I'm enjoying listening to her read it. You will not regret getting this set!
