Art Models 5 (Art Models Series) DVD-ROM – September 1, 2010

The details where fabulous! They took their time to tell us what moves to make. Beautiful, appalling and very thrilling

The reason I gave this only 3 stars is because I have another book in the series, and I was disappointed to find out that many of the models and accessories like the chairs, the shawl, and so forth, were the same in both books. I was also disappointed that I couldn't find the pose that I wanted, but I can't blame the book publisher for that. If this is the only book you have in the series I think you'll be very happy with it, but if you have more than one you'll probably find them pretty much the same.

I accidentally bought this DVD when I meant to buy the book. But the DVD is so much better as you can get one of the poses and rotate it to see it from all angles. We will be buying the DVD of the set from now on. Although I think they should sell them together as the DVD plainly said " companion" which makes me think it's suppose to go with the book. But guess they gotta make money lol.

This book is good looking but had little utility for me, as an artist. On the positive side, there are a variety of models and poses to choose from. And, the 360 degree view options on the DVD should provide much flexibility in choosing poses or parts of the models to draw. On the negative side, the lighting for the models is direct and clinical, as in a medical examining room. This produces little in the way of contrast and shadow. And, most of the poses are actually unusual, contorted, uncomfortable looking, and unconventional. Some poses seem better suited for an adult magazine, and are probably there to boost marketing among non-artists. There were only several "classical" or relaxed poses in the entire book and DVD that were worth using, so it wasn't worth the money or effort for me. If you are into non-typical poses and are not concerned with contrast and shadow, then this may suit you. Not me. I would not recommend this book to any serious artists interested in drawing the "classical figure". I discarded this book soon after purchase. Some of the other books in this series appear to have more classical presentations and more creative lighting.

Most of the files on the accompanying DVD are corrupt (as in: can't be opened at all). I am a fan of the Art Models series, and I have to say that the photos in the book look magnificent. However, if you are planning on using the DVD (which I consider essential for this series because it normally has higher-resolution photos than the book), you will be disappointed.Update: I contacted the publisher of this book, and he's been very accommodating in resolving the problem with my DVD. I have only good things to say about the digital photos which I now received and the book itself, so I am updating my rating to 5 stars.

I have bought many books like this over the years as an amateur illustrator. I'll never be an artist. But I like to draw for fun and sometimes profit. But I need to "see" what I am drawing. I can't do it in my minds eye. Usually the models in books like this are like me. Just average people. But this one had some really beautiful women and men in action poses as well as static. That alone was worth the price. It's a beautiful book just to look at. And it has some of the best poses of live models I have yet seen. I loved it at once. This was wonderfully inspirational.

I strongly recommend this book for any aspiring artist or anyone interested in figure study! This is an extremely useful reference for any artist, but it's an especially powerful tool for the sculptor! You not only a get a well-lit full 360-degree eye level view of each pose, you can also view each pose both from high and low vantage points! Truly invaluable for the sculptor! I've seen a few products of this kind for the artist, but none that included views from above looking down on each pose! I will be adding this book to my library for many years of future reference!

A great reference guide for figure artists, this series keeps getting better and better. There is an interesting variety of models and poses, but the dramatic lighting is what makes the photos so useful. The photographer obviously listens to artist input and is producing useful refs as opposed to "artistic nudes". My DVD works fine, and in fact it is the best part of the package; I connect my laptop to my flat-screen TV and it's as close to a life drawing session as it gets. Go to life drawing groups if you can, but if you can't, use this.

Great resource for any photographer or art student looking for inspiration with their models. The disc is jam packed with royalty free images arranged in folders.The models are posed on a turn table and then the photographer has captured an image every 10 to 20 degrees of rotation of the model. This makes about 24 images per model with some models photographed in greater detail or specific anatomical areas covered.The disc also contains a PDF version of the book which I've copied to my tablet device for quick reference on shoots; I've already done a fine art shoot and drawn inspiration from the book. You can also download bonus models from the website with the code printed in the book.I highly recommend this book and will be purchasing others in the series.

A very useful guide and a great selection of Male and Female models with lots of different skin tones to work with.

Nice to have for art work. Arrived on time. Now require more natural poses, including sitting on chairs.

Brilliant reference! It is not always possible to work from a life model… this solves that problem!
