**Q: What is the purpose of this stuff?**
A: Hi, Well I think it's used more as a practical joke than anything but I think the only purpose I can see for it is as an anti-theft dye. A few grains of this stuff on some double sided tape stuck to the item that is private etc will catch the thief purple handed. Word of warning; this stuff is very potent, a little goes a long way, will stain clothes permanently and the only way I've found to get it off your skin is with bleach. Use with caution.

**Q: Is this potassium permanganate?**
A: Triarylmethane dye. Not potassium permanganate.

**Q: besides pranks and jokes are there any practical uses, like how well dose it work as an actual purple dye for cloth?  what shade of purple do you get?**
A: It would be a dark purple, (Google gentian violet stain) but you would not have a lot of control over the result.  I would not recommend as a dye for fabric, just can insure it's permanent if it gets on fabric.

**Q: Can the dye be removed from the money after I find the theif or do I loose those bills?**
A: If the money gets wet, it will stain the money, which, doesn't hurt anything really, it's still legal tender.  But if the dust stays dry the money will be fine.  Even the slightest amount of sweat on the hands though will render your hands PURPLE! :D
