Kebroak KHWC10LB 10-Pound Hardwood Lump Charcoal Bag

Great price for a huge bag of charcoal. Burns perfectly, great flavor. I started using lump coal recently to reduce my chemical intake. I use the paper towel/cooking oil method for lighting, and it works perfectly every time. I'll never use briquettes or lighter fluid again!This stuff is high quality, large chunks. Bag comes in a box, and is pretty dusty when it arrives, so be prepared.This will be my go-to coal from now on.

First let me say that the product is very nice to cook with. Burns hot, burns long and burn low as needed. I usually cook with Wicked Good Weekend Warrior lump but I have to travel across town and its a little pricey for the 20lb bags (26). Buying this Kebroak through Amazon is very convenient when the price drops as it did when I got it. Twenty-eight and change. The problem. The bags are heavy at 40lbs (I think my bag weighed more) and the box they ship it in is too big and the lump is not secure. It ends up destroying the box and the lump get pulverized in the process. Result, some smaller pieces that will fall through the grate and a lot of dust.

This stuff takes for ever to get some heat out of it for searing steaks in a big green egg, it burns fast, and has a significant amount of ash. Look at a local store for some royal oak lump, its better, hotter, easier to light, and hardly any ash.

Bought this to use on my Big Green Egg... If the BGE charcoal is par, this charcoal, in my opinion, is subpar at best. The chunks are smaller than average, and most of the "big" chunks are equivalent to a 4 inch portion of a 1/2" wooden rod.The charcoal takes a long time to get hot, then burns quickly once you get them to catch fire (not adequate for direct steaks at hotter temps); it smokes profusely then simply heats the coals to a red coal, if you want fire, you'll have to wait - I waited about thirty minutes to get them to fire, then, after they caught and spread, they burned very quickly. I've had to clean all of the ashes and put new charcoal each time I've cooked, which I've never had to do with the BGE charcoal- I can usually reuse a good portion of the batch for the next time.I like the BGE charcoal, but am looking for a more economic replacement. Any recommendations would be great! I won't re-up with this charcoal.

I just purchased a BGE a few weeks ago, and was looking forward to get to the grilling and smoking I've been anticipating for a long time. I researched a number of the hardwood charcoals on Amazon.com reading nearly all the reviews. The item I originally wanted was backordered, so I chose the Kebroak based on good reviews (minus one) and a good value. I was willing to pay a bit more for a quality product.Like one of the other negative reviews, I have found that many of the charcoal pieces are quite small (imagine circumference of a quarter or slightly larger), which as I understand is not really desired. There are some big fist size chuncks, but they are mixed throughout the bag. The product seems to burn well and long. It takes some effort to get started, but that seems standard from what I can gather. It has a real "peetyness" to it that I strongly liken to a Laphroaig 10 yr. My clothes have wreeked of campfire after each BBQ.I like the smell, not impressed with the size of the coals. Will try another kind next time, even if that means paying slight more. I have 40 lbs, so that will be a while from now.

Overall rating on the product itself is great! Nice large hardwood chunks that burn long and hot. I will order more for sure!!But the method it was shipped has some big issues. The box the bag of charcoal was in was to light of cardboard for the heavy bag. There was very little extra padding/shipping material in the box, and the box was not taped very well!! The delivery driver had a tough time with the box due to its size and it was collapsing as he was trying to carry it. The box did have some corners crushed and the box itself was smashed on the sides!! Also the box was coming untaped. I am suspicious that some of the charcoal got damaged/crushed in the shipping process. My suggestion is due to how delicate the charcoal is, and how heavy the bag is, ship it in a better, heaver container!!

I purchased the 40 pound bag because I grill a lot, and the convenience of having plenty of fuel is important. The charcoal lights easily in my chimney starter, and burns as hot as I want it. If I open all the vents, I get a good hot fire for searing, and if I damp the grill down, I get a couple of hours of low heat. The quality of the charcoal is evident, but it seems to have been roughly handled in shipping, as I do have a fair amount of small stuff, almost too small to use. However, I will buy this again.

I purchased Kebroak charcoal off of amazon after I learned about the product on the BBQ Central Radio Show. I am a backyard bbq fanatic but have had allergic sensitivity with the kingsford briquettes and the fillers and chemicals they put in. My eyes would become severely red and throat sore and irritated, sometimes for days after. I began wearing goggles and facemasks and took benedryl before-hand, which helped, but was inconvenient when having people over. However, it DID help so I could continue enjoying BBQing.After researching, I began using natural wood coal products and that, for the most part, eliminated the severity of my allergic reactions. When I tried Kebroak, I found that no other hardwood charcoal that I had used previously, had the same quality clean burn, heat time, and consistency that Kebroak does. Its a win-win because I get to use a great hardwood charcoal product and I do not need to wear goggles and face masks all the time! I am only going to use Kebroak from now on.
