.com With their 2008 EP, The Bake Sale, the Cool Kids deliver enough goodies to assuage any concerns that their MySpace hype was overblown. With 10 tracks of little more than late '80s drum-machine boom-bap and strategic synth jabs, Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks recreate Golden Age hip-hop with more giggly sincerity than irony. That earnestness keeps The Bake Sale from becoming cash-in nostalgia. The duo's mouths are full of uncomplicated rhymes about their stylish bicycles ("Black Mags"); selling black-market cones when the ice-cream truck runs out ("What Up Man"); and being so original that the average b-boy can't understand pants that fit, vintage Sega game-system enthusiasm ,and boutique clothes ("A Little Bit Cooler"). And of course, per the Cool Kids, the ladies find all this irresistible. It would all be standard fare with a retro sheen, but the Detroit/Chicago pair often point the humor at themselves, which a shrinking number of rappers are willing to do. That self-deprecation gave them a hip indie-music fan base. The real trick is keeping the underground cred as they move toward the mainstream. --Kris Kendall

He's Mikey.....he rocks
See what the internet can do?Cool Kids inital EP release is a breath of creativity. With pop princesses and sound alike bands taking over music these days, it's nice to find a group that sets themselves apart. The timing of creativity couldn't be better.Overall, "Bake Sale" is masterfully written rhymes put together with some nicely creative beats - all in a retro-style hip-hop package. "Black Mags" has been out for some time and the accompanying music video made the listener curious as to exactly where this duo may be heading. The rest of the album falls in line. Every song is unique and no "fillers" added. The 10 song EP is just what an album should be.If you get a chance to explore some popular video sharing sites, check out some of the things these guys have done. The "everything sucks" rant about today's music is dead on. Also check out some of the freestyle EP's that are floating around. They won't disappoint."Bake Sale" - a refreshing listen in an overall stale music world.

This album is as fun as they come!
Fun lyrics. Fun beats. Nothing too serious and you can tell these guys love what they do and feel good doing it! I enjoyed this album and glad I found these guys..."the black beastie boys, chuck e, mike e, some cats don't like me..." ha ha ha classic! Definitely worth it!

Jam to it.
Saw them first live, and after experiencing an awesome show, I had to have their tracks. They really were cool kids. Ended up bringing some fans on stage to dance- Chuck actually let one of the kids in the audience sing his part with Mikey. They're good guys and their music is a straight party. If you can't get your head bobbing to at least half of their tracks, there's something wrong with you!

Fantastic
If you loved the Beastie Boys, you'll love this! Lyrics are funny, NOT explicit. A real throwback to the eighties. Loved it!

Why DIdnt anyone do this earlier
This was a cd amazon had been recommending for a while now and I finally just bought it so it would disappear of the page. This CD is cheesy but cheesy in an awesome way. Like other reviewers stated the lyrics including references to pagers and sega's won't blow your mind they fit the overblown drum machine braggadocious b-boy vibe the Cool Kids were going for. Especially where rap is either trash (Lil Wayne btw why is he on all 4 radio stations anytime I listen!!??) or the underground where they definitely can take themselves a bit too serious, this cd fits as a great alternative. Everyone who has heard it begged me for a copy. All in All BUY IT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF THIS IS AWESOME STUFF!

Old school
Pop this CD in and you will almost think you are listening to an old school album from way back. This album is very well written and the beats are great. Some good bass for rattling your car. It is good to hear an album that does not cater to the mainstream of pop crap today.

Just 2 Cool
If I could add more stars, this page would be full of gold stars and if there was something I just had to say bad about this album that would be that it's just ten tracks. After you hear the Bake Sale you won't be able to get enough. But apart from that, this album is lyrically on point. Mickey rips it apart on the track "Mickey Rocks". The Bake Sale is TRUE hip-hop minus the everyday same old radio trash (RAP, wannbe hip-hop) people are forced to listen to. I really commend Mickey and Chuck for there crafty sample of early 90's and 80's Hip-hop beats. NWA, Run DMC, Salt and Pepa, and more. If you are looking for true hip-hop I highly recommend this album. It's just 2 COOL.
