69/96

I've been a fan of Point and Fantasma for years, but could never really find any of his other stuff. Then a friend from Japan, knowing I was a fan, brought this album on his most recent visit. It's incredible. I don't think anyone does cut-and-paste style pop better than Cornelius, Beck included. It's like he threw 100 different styles of music into a blender, and it somehow came out brilliant and focused. I like how this album gets into some extended "jams" (if you can call them that), and really allows Cornelius to showcase his skills.

If you've been following the Keigo Oyamada story from his humble beginnings in the mythical Lollipop Sonic to his pop success with Flipper's Guitar to his first solo release "The First Question Award," you'll next run into a little work called "69/96." Apparently, Oyamada grabbed his distortion pedal and his sampler from the closet where they had been stored since "Dr. Head's World Tower" and went to town. This album is gritty--pasted together rock samples, distored vocals, scratches courtesy of Moooog Yamamoto from Buffalo Daughter, and electronic beats and bleeps. Loud. Guest appearances by Kahimi Karie and Oyamada's dad, and one song written by p5's konishi. Heavy metal meets 60s psych meets 90s rap. Overall, good, but nowhere as genius as "Fantasma." The remix album of this work "96/69" is also genuinine pleasure.

despite this album being about seven years old, I've only recently come across the wonders of Cornelius and this guy is a genius!!! Now the search is on for his first (and most difficult to get hold of) album! Best purchase of the year so far!

I think this is an extraordinary disc. I own Cornelius' other two albums and his is by far my favorite of the three. Any fans of Fantasma should buy this, it is worth the price of importing.

このCDを購入して10年以上になります。コーネリアスが聴きたくなると、このアルバムを選ぶことが多いのですが、それは、「ヘビィ・メタル・サンダー」がとにかくカッコいいからだと思います。楽しい気分の時はもちろん盛り上がれますが、なんとなく落ち込んでいる時に聴いても、少し元気になれます。続く「ロック96」も「ワールズ・エンド・ハミング」も、「ヘビィ・メタル・サンダー」の後に続くこともあり、対照的な雰囲気がいい感じです。

初回限定版は諦めていましたが、状態もとても良くてビックリしました！
