We recommend using Stagg X to brew 300ml/10oz of coffee. Stagg XF has a taller column, which allows for a non-traditional “fill-up” method that combines the ease of immersion brewing and the refined taste of a pour-over. We recommend using Stagg XF to brew 600ml/20oz of coffee. **Q: Is there an alternative filter that can fit closely to the XF dripper?** A: The Kalita 185 filters are the same thing, or close enough. Fellow makes GREAT coffee products (hardware), however, if you plan to create "custom" filters so you can nickel & dime or repurpose Kalita filters, similar to how Dollar Shave Club did the same with Doco razers, brilliant. Just put a similar amount of effort to ensure you have them in stock! I have half a mind to toss my Fellow Pour-Over only, for this reason, half the time I need to use bootleg filters because nothing is available (and this has been going on for some time, so please don't scapegoat the pandemic... it's paper, not microchips) **Q: Does this have any substantial benefits over the Kalita Wave, with which its very similar to, in principle?** A: Our dripper is vacuum insulated (to retain heat that is normally lost during brewing) and our carafe has a dual wall (so your coffee stays hot longer)! **Q: Is there a reusable metal filter that fits either size of the drippers?** A: Unfortunately we don't currently offer a metal, reusable filter for the dripper. This was my first flat bottom dripper. The more I use it, the more I like it. 5 stars for quality, functionality, ease of use and aesthetics. No first-world complaints from this reviewer. If you can pour hot water into an opening the size of a typical coffee mug, you will be able to brew ridiculously good coffee using the Stagg [XF]. Understandably, a smooth-walled carafe with no handle may be problematic for some hands. You can see from the image that I did not opt for the Fellow carafe as I already own several suitable vessels that fit the Stagg [XF]. With the Stagg [XF], there is no need to stir, swirl, tap, pour with magical technique and timing, pray, make religious gestures - none of those things you see on internet videos. You can do those things with the Stagg [XF] if you want to, but you don't need to do those things. That is why I keep reaching for this brewing method more often. Just follow the instructions, use all the components appropriately and you will brew 500-750 ml of ridiculously good coffee quite fast. The only cons that I can think of would be the initial cost of the device and the ongoing cost of the Stagg filters. I have gone off-label a number of times and used the Stagg [XF] to brew 1000 ml, with less-predictable results. That may be another con for some. But if you are looking to try a flat-bottom pour-over that is easy to use and brews quickly, and you can tolerate the cost, the Stagg [XF] will brew ridiculously good coffee for you.
