Gorgeous Classic Donald Duck
It’s interesting to me that classic Sunday comics always seem to be more expensive than black and white dailies with a lot less pages. This is not just a Donald Duck or IDW thing. I guess printing color is just significantly more expensive. This book has 168 pages which is somewhat slender compared to the two volumes of Donald Duck dailies that both check in at 272 pages. You get one Sunday comic strip per page and about four years of material which is a pretty good span of time. The first thing I noticed when I opened the book was how beautifully cleaned up the images are. They certainly don’t look like they were pulled from newspaper scans. Some people like their classic comics to look like they originally appeared, warts and all. In my opinion the cleanup is simply presenting the comics as the artists would have intended were they not limited by olde tyme printing technology and cheap paper. I absolutely love the way these comics look with sharp lines and vibrant colors.I generally prefer dailies over Sunday comics and this book is no exception. There is something about delivering a punchline in four panels that hammers a joke home. I was quite surprised when I read the dailies that I was getting more than a few laugh out loud moments. The Sunday comics get more of a smile and head nod even though it’s the same creative team. This is in no way meant to denigrate the Sunday comics but opening the comics up to a longer setup somehow seems to cause the jokes to lose some punch. Bob Karp also does a lot of joke reuse which was true in the dailies also. A lot of the comics are refinements and variations of the same dozen or so jokes but he changes them up enough so the book doesn’t feel repetitive. We really are living in a golden age of classic Disney comics. Fantagraphics is producing Floyd Gottfredson’s Mickey Mouse and Carl Barks Donald Duck and IDW is doing the Donald Duck newspaper comics and Silly Symphonies. Fantagraphics continues to outshine IDW when it comes to extras and this book has just a three page introduction but IDW is producing some really beautiful volumes and again I commend them for the work they did cleaning up the images.

A High Quality Volume that Makes even Non-Comic Fans Smile
I'm a lifelong journalist, several decades spent working in newspaper newsrooms, so I have a special love of classic newspaper comic strips. What passes for a comic section today is still welcome in our household, but it's nothing like the lavish comic presentations of earlier eras.I've got a number of bound collections of newspaper comic strips on my bookshelf at home, books that interest mainly me. But when this book arrived in the house, my wife opened it up and said, "Wow. This is fun."The print quality is first rate. (Occasionally I've bought comic strip retrospective volumes with poor registration of the colors or tones that are off key.) These are bright, beautiful comic strips. They're also highly visual gags—easy to coax a smile out of someone even if they're not naturally drawn to comic strips.I would highly recommend this volume if you're interested in classic comics, in classic Disney cartoon stories, or simply in some fun reading for yourself and friends.

Great Purchase
I got this book as a Chsistmas gift for my 76-year-old dad. He's a huge Donald Duck fan and this book was gold for him. He just finished reading it and he is now going through it a second time so he can "give more attention to the strips I really like." It gave him a trip down nostalgia lane, as he vaguely remembers some of the strips from when he was a kid. The look of awe and wonder when he unwrapped the book was priceless. He is thoroughly enjoying it. I recommend for anyone who is a DD fan. Also, I am set for the next coupla years for birthdays, father's day adn Christmases, as there are several volumes. Fast delivery.

Perfect gift
Bought this as a gift for a friend who is a huge Donald Duck fan. He loved it. I didn’t even know these exsisted until I started looking for a gift. I was so impressed with the quality (I mean, duh, Walt Disney didn’t skimp on quality) that I wanted to look through it all before passing it along.

OUTSTANDING COLOR AND PAPER QUALITY !!
I like these color comics much better than the B & W comics. Most likely, I'll buy more of these when they come out.
