Pu-erh tea is relatively new to Western tea drinkers. However, it has long been coveted by tea connoisseurs in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other parts of Asia. Believed to help digestion and to have a number of health benefits, Pu-erh tea has the additional attribute of improving and becoming smoother with age. This is because Pu-erh tea is made from a broad-leaf variety of the tea tree. Acted on by naturally occuring microbes inherent in the tea leaf, Pu-erh tea undergoes a fermentation process, a process that is arrested in the production of green and most other teas. This small tea brick is comprised of tea picked from ancient wild arbor trees high in the mountains of Yunnan, China, believed to be the birthplace of tea. This tea is the 2013 vintage of our popular Denong Wild line of teas from 2009 and 2010. It has complex flavors and can be brewed again and again (10-15 times), each successive brew requiring just some additional time. The Chinese drink this tea not only to enhance digestion but also with oily foods to cleanse grease from their palates. Pu-erh tea cakes and tea bricks are essentially compressed tea. The Denong Wild Tea Brick comes with a tea pick for easy and convenient prying of the tea leaves from the brick It is beautifully decorated and comes with a safety cap so the sharp point of the tea pick can be stored safety. The combination tea brick and tea pick comes to you beautifully and thoughtfully enclosed in Bana's distinctive packaging.
