The C cup was too small. I ordered the 36D and it fits beautifully! The wires sit perfectly behind the breast tissue. It supports around the sides nicely, and doesn't cut in. The smooth lines from profile view are perfect. I don't like a bra that makes me look like I have 2 bowls on my chest. It a nice smooth line down the front. I really like how it feels all around. After I returned the wrong cup size, I purchased 2 more of my size. I tend to stick to the styles I like best. This bra does not bind, straps do not dig in or slip, and there is no nasty extra padding in the cups. I'm generally a 36C but ordered 38C and that makes for a more comfortable fit, with no tightness around the chest. Cups are adequately shaped/sized so there is no "wrinkling" or "empty space". I put this and the other ones in laundry lingerie bags, set the machine on the gentlest no-spin cycle. Press them gently with a towel, then place them back into the lingerie bags to gently dry in drier. HOWEVER, I found it to be just a tad too tight, and uncomfortable to wear. So I went up a band size but not cup: 40C fits great! If you have not washed/worn your purchases and have original shipping materials, I would return to Amazon and request wider band size. You say they are 4 inches short. That's a lot. Perhaps try going up 2 sizes. Example: You ordered 36C. Order 40 C and even a 42 C. Try on and see which fits most comfortably, return what doesn't. I have to tel you that I donated all my previous bras and wear only this Olga Leaves style. Have it in just about every color. Amazon had great prices when I was looking for the red. Had paid more for other purchases (had no idea Amazon carried this brand or would have ordered here). These are comfortable, straps don't "dig" or ride, bra stays in place without squeezing ribcage, cups have just enough lining to hide "nature's dots" and breasts are not "sitting" in the cups, instead they nicely fill/fit the space. I hand wash, gently squeeze in a towel, then drape to dry on clothes rack in laundry room. Place a towel underneath to capture any dripping. I’d measure the length of this band on the bras before returning them, and remeasure your own circumference to get an idea of what went wrong.
