But without the backlight, no. There is a light button on it, and has 4 colors I think! **Q: How does this compare to the Leapfrog laptop? My son is 16 months and I'm trying to see which would be more beneficial for him learning his alphabet.** A: I purchased this for my son when he was around that same age. The keys were difficult for his little fingers to press and the activities were a bit complex, so I purchased him the leapfrog laptop, which has raised keys, a larger screen, and simpler activities. The alphabet program gives a letter, makes its sound and gives an example of a word that starts with it. When it says, "rrrrrrrr", he always laughs. The tablet is for older kids.
