Devin TOWNSEND Accelerated Evolution CD

Compositional Masterpiece of Devin Townsend
This is one of my favorite Devin Townsend Band albums. From clean vocals to gritty shouting/yelling, heavy riffs to beautiful melodies: this album has it all. It's such a diverse album that lets you see the prowess of the Devin Townsend Band.I would have to say that this album is very finely instrumented. The band sets the mood really well and it helps make this album just come together to be something beautiful. I find it amazing when a metal album is able to convey as much aesthetic as this one does. The one thing that I do like about this album over his album Deconstruction is the use of a real drummer. Having real drums definitely adds more emotion and a more natural feel. I would definitely recommend this album for your collection.

All things considered this CD is a must have.
Great hard rock/prog from DTB. The musicianship here is outstanding. The lyrical content is also very good. Devin is a really good guitarist whom I see as not getting the attention he deserves. This is my third Townsend recording an they are all above most of the stuff out there. His music is comparable to Porcupine Tree somewhat and that, in my book, is a good thing. I will say that I prefer Steven Wilson's vocals but that's a small item. Devin's vocal style is fine so no real complaint there. The intensity of the music is unrelenting, it really keeps one's interest. It's hard to pick a favorite track because of the overall strength of the album as a whole. All things considered this CD is a must have.

Coolest CD from Townsend's Past Works
Accelerated Evolution has some of the most imaginative works Devin Townsend has created. Although not his newest, it ranks amongst my most favorite albums. Townsend is constantly in the process of evolution.

Not Devin's best. Devin is definitely a complex & creative musician and all of his stuff is not for everyone. To me, this album comes up short. I know many DT fans won't agree with this assessment, and that's cool. I am a fan of a lot of Devin's stuff, but on the whole, this one just doesn't do it for me.The main problem I have is with the synths. And I love electronic music; I am just not a fan of how the synths were (over)used on this recording. I see what they were trying to do, create a grand, sweeping, epic sound. But every song seems to have this mid-range electronic whine behind it. All that does, in my opinion, is flatten the sound - every song on this album sounds flat and washed out and dull. There are some respectable cuts on here with good riffs and vocals, namely 'Depth Charge', 'Random Analysis', 'Suicide', and 'Slow Me Down'. But none of these songs are among Devin's strongest & more memorable efforts, and, as I've mentioned, are washed out by the synths. 'Depth Charge' and 'Random Analysis' have some decent guitar work and are a couple of the heavier cuts on here. The opening of 'Random Analysis' has a beat that is very reminiscent of Metallica's pop-metal 'Enter Sandman'. 'Slow Me Down' is straight out of the 80's glam metal handbook, but with the Devin Townsend stamp on it. The other songs just don't stand out...The only reason I don't award 2 stars for this thing is because of the inclusion of the Project EKO Bonus Disc which contains 3 mostly instrumental & electronic songs from Devin: 'Locate', 'Echo', and 'Assignable'. These 3 tracks are cool & chilled out, are better than anything on the main album, and save "Accelerated Evolution" from being largely forgettable. 3 stars for "Accelerated Evolution" with the bonus disc material...

Where has Devin been all my life?!
I'm new to Devin Townsend, my boyfriend has been a fan for years and after he played me "Depth Charge" I had to listen to the rest of it.As far as I'm concerned, when music gives me goosebumps and makes me want to cry due to its sheer epic quality then the musicians have done their job. This is definitely the case with Accelerated Evolution.Quite simply, an awesome, epic, fully immersive musical experience. Put it on loud and enter another universe.

Like running an electrical current through ice cold milk...
Yet another astonishing opus from the Canadian metal genius. Just when you thought things couldn't get any better on the Devin front, he releases a cross between "Ocean Machine" and "Terria". Heavy as you like, with gorgeous emotional melodies, "Accelerated Evolution" will be in your cd player for weeks of repeat listenings. The bonus disc consists of three tracks - all oddly soothing electronica. Well worth investing in - BUY IT NOW!
