To retract the tip of the pen, push the retraction button. The retraction button can be found on the top of the pen. **Q: Does ink bleed through paper? As in you write on a sheet of paper and the ink comes through the other side?** A: No, the ink does not bleed through. I can't find RED pens locally, for some strange reason, so I bought a 2-pack of these, just to try them out. I wasn't disappointed. I got them for work (they don't supply us with the pens we need) and one pen has lasted me over a month (we write a lot of notes) and it's only about halfway done. The line thickness is just right, even for a "heavy" writer like me.
