Review: A neat little device - Great device. Great for ignition wire kilovolt testing. I also used it to verify my in-dash tachometer reading (turns out my in-dash tach is not that accurate). It can also be used with distributorless systems (I believe all you need to do is to set it to 2 cycle if your engine uses a waste spark system). A very useful tool for a small workshop. It senses the voltage indirectly via the spark plug, or a coil lead to a distributor cap. **Q: 1. For a car, does this work on only 1 cylinder at a time? 2. Does it have the range so it can this be used in the cockpit while test driving?** A: 1. Only one cylinder at a time, especially if you want to use the ignition condition checking mode.2. The range can be up to about 500mm, depending on interference, on a single cylinder engine such as an outboard or a golf car. however, it needs to be a lot closer for a multi cylinder engine. **Q: will this work to check rpm on small house gen?** A: First, I bought the TA100 after an extensive search primarily to accurately check idle speed on my 2 & 4 cylinder motorcycles. It works perfectly. There is a setting for single cylinder engines so the answer is "Yes". Very well made with quality hard case. **Q: Does it check for coil resistance output. Could it tell me if the ignition coil is good or bad?** A: Basically it checks ignition voltages. It will tell you what voltage each spark-plug has before it fires. It will tell you what voltage the ignition coil is putting out. It will give you RPM for any size engine:- chainsaw to V8 etc, but you will need a multimeter to measure resistance. Simple faults like broken coils can be determined by simple test gear. This instrument is for the devious faults. This newer model has a much better antenna and the device seems more sensitive which is nice. I have another one that I have used on my motorcycles. A very nice unit.
