During transportation and storage the cap covers the pins. During measurement the cap serves as gun-type grip for easy probe insertion. The on-off button is located between the pins. As the pins are pushed into the wood the on-off button is automatically depressed and turns the meter on. Instantly the moisture percentage is displayed. No need to depress an on-off button. There is also a temperature compensation table --the measured moisture content can be manually corrected for ambient temperature. Sure, you could have this automatic, but not for this price.
