Given the variable reviews of this book I bought it with a little reluctance... However on balance it is a good book and proved useful. It is a sorry state when published medical books have mistakes in them, but this book is not unique in this category and they are pretty easy to spot!A lot of the clinical cases are based on past exam questions and the format is good for either individual or group revision. I would certainly recommend this book for the Final FRCA SOE.

Would certainly recommend this book for anyone giving the Final FRCA SOE. Besides some new topics, it is an easy read and laid out in a good question and answer format, which makes it ideal for those long theatre sessions where you could just give this book to your Consultant, Colleague or ODP and brush up on your knowledge and presentation skills. All in all, a valuable asset in your preparation and success towards the Final FRCA examination.

I've never written a review. But in revising for the FRCA I found the badly worded questions, inaccurate and almost non-existent answers to some questions and terrible editing of this book infuriating. Using it as a tool to revise from, my friend and I merely use it for its topic list. To ask questions and for accuracy of answers we find ourselves referencing other SOE books and our original pharm/phys/anatomy books, as we are not convinced by any answer given in this book. There is a lot of difference between hypo and hyper (seemingly lost on the writers/editors). There are too many mistakes. It would have been detrimental using this book for revision in the early stages if we had been hoping to learn from it. Time is limited and good quality revision is essential (not correcting the book you are trying to revise from!). Given the price I would have expected better.

A good source of questions and material.The numerous mistakes can be very annoying but that doesn't stop me from using it to revise, although as another reviewer has said, for £35, you expect a bit more effort.

Excellent breadth of topics - but I wonder if its getting slightly out of date now

Like a lot of other people have said, there are lots of errors in this book. It's okay if you are using it for the questions, and are aware of the errors, but if you were using this book as a source of knowledge you could run into some problems.
