BAC Industries PH-11 Single Hook Pulley Hoist

I wanted to suspend a fold-able ladder and this was the only single pulley hoist I could find. It's design is simple, yet extremely useful. Heed the 80 lb weight limit, which is due to the fact the pulley wheels are plastic and the braking is clamping of a poly rope. However, the unit is solid and can definitely handle a heavy load. besides the solid design, physics gives the mechanical advantage to hoist a heavy load with ease. The uses for this hoist are many, whether in the garage or elsewhere. The device is also able to be customized. for example the hook hardware didn't work in my case, so with a little drilling I was able to replace with an eyebolt. I also didn't like the rafter clamp design since I was mounting direct to a 2x4 to span rafters. With a little extra hardware, I was able to remove the pulleys from the rafter clamp and secure them directly to the 2x4. This gave a few more vertical inches and streamlined the look. Also by removing the pulleys from the rafter clamp, you can space them farther apart if needed. The braking/locking mechanism work excellent. No worries about the load coming crashing down over time.One thing to note about this design is that there is a specific way to raise and lower due to the braking/locking mechanism. To raise you can pull the rope from behind, directly beneath or in front of the load. However to lower, you pretty much have to pull from behind the load to properly release the mechanism and keep tension. This can be a problem if you don't figure this into your clearances beforehand. When I say behind the load, I mean pulling the rope towards the side opposite where the rope enters the mechanism.I am extremely happy with this purchase in the fact it operates as intended and I was able to customize it. Wrong instructions were included, but correct instructions are on their website.
