Polish-English/English Polish Concise Dictionary (Hippocrene Concise Dictionary)

If I were to list the five worst Polish-English, English-Polish dictionaries that have been published, this one would be on the list. But now it is completely obsolete, because both the Oxford PWN Great English-Polish, Polish-English Dictionary, and the Kościuszko English-Polish, Polish English Dictionary are both available for remarkably low prices for iPhones. These two dictionaries together are all anyone needs, unless translating highly-technical material that requires an English-Polish, Polish-English dictionary for specialists in particular professional or academic subjects. And in most cases, these dictionaries will do the job even for surprisingly specialized material. I have tossed my hard copy of the Hippocrene Dictionary in the trash; it only wastes bookshelf space.

We took a trip to Poland in June 2015 and I bought this to have as a guide. I don't know if it's made more for someone moving there rather than traveling as a tourist, but it never seemed to have the translation for words we were looking up. We ended up waiting and using aps on our smartphones when we have free wi-fi at the hotels. I think an updated version of this book is needed.

There is a large imbalance between the Polish to English vs. English to Polish components of this dictionary, with the former being much skimpier than the latter. Thus the positive reviews come from English speakers looking for a Polish word. However, for the English speaker wishing to know the meaning of a Polish word, this dictionary is useless. Nowhere in the advertising is this weakness acknowledged. It should be removed for sale.

I bought this for a Polish friend but found that she cannot find all the words she needs. However, she finds enough words to make this an invaluable aid.

I Would have liked sentences instead of word .

ポーランド語をKindleでは標準でフォローしてくれませんので、自力でKindle対応辞書を買う必要があります。Kindle標準対応の辞書では単語を長押しするとポップアップで辞書が出てきますが、この辞書はあくまでもKindleで読める紙の辞書なので、単語を自動的に調べる事は出来ません。しかし色々と手を尽くして調べてみたのですが、英語⇒ポーランド語Kindle辞書はあるのに逆は燦々たるものです。でも年中、紙のポーランド語辞書を持ち歩くのも辛いので、この辞書で満足しようと思います。繰り返しますが、普通の紙の辞書がKindleで読めるもので検索すらも出来ません。でも、基本的な単語は載っているし、これで今は充分かなと思います...
