Fruit and nuts average at most, cake bland and dry.
I love fruitcake. Light, dark, aged in liquor, no liquor, doesn't matter to me. I love it. A Christmas tradition in my family, but I also keep one in the freezer to serve in paper thin slices with iced tea in the summer. I've had Claxton Fruit Cake before, but it's been a few years. I remember the cakes of the past as moist and full of flavor, lots of fruit and nuts. This was a real disappointment. This says sell by April 2020 but it tastes like last year's stock. The cake is dry and very bland, no flavor to it at all, no sign of any kind of spice. The fruit is mostly raisins, some orange peel, a little pineapple, a few cherries, a little skimpy on the nuts. The seller is listed as Claxton Fruitcake, but I have my doubts. Next year I'll just bake my own again. This I gave to a friend who is crumbling it up in her bird feeder. It was either that or the garbage can.

High quality fruit and a delicious treat!
All fruit cake jokes aside, this fruit cake was tender and fresh with true fruit flavor. There was a wonderful balance of fruit to cake and no bitter or off flavors at all. We stored the cakes wrapped, in the refrigerator, cutting off slices to bring to room temperature every day or two. This insured that the last morsel was just as good as the first. I have memories of these fruit cakes from many years ago when they were given as gifts at Christmas time by the hospital I worked at in Brunswick, Georgia. It was wonderful to revisit this treat and find that it was just as good as we remembered.

“Best By date” does make a difference!
I love Claxton fruitcake and buy them every year and have for many years. This year for the first time ever one of the 2 purchased had an expiration date of Jan 2020 and it was dry and not fresh. The other had an April 2020 date and it was better. Needless to say I was and am disappointed. Claxton fruitcakes are the best but freshness can and does make a difference! I think the seller held this too long. I don’t blame Claxton.

These were purchased as a gift, but could have been fresher.
We are big fans of these fruit cakes. I gave both as gifts, but one was returned to me right away since the recipient had already purchased a few. My fruit cake had occasional zones that appeared slightly dried out. Most of the cake was all right. These cakes are famous for the amount of candied fruit and nuts and for the most part did not disappoint on that score.

This is my favorite fruit cake of all times. Anyone who has tasted Claxton Fruit Cake knows how fresh, moist, and full of flavor they are. A product that’s been around for a long time. I usually can find them near me but not this year. Thanks Amazon for helping to make Sheltering In during the Holidays much more bearable with one of my favorite holiday treats. Don’t take my word for it if you’re reading this order some a see for yourself. Stay Safe...

I’m a Fruitcake Fan
I liked that this fruitcake had lots of nuts in it. That part was delicious! I didn’t like that it had so much fruit in it. It was so sweet - too sweet for me. I did get a good deal on it and gave one to a friend. I haven’t asked her if she liked it or not yet. I do hope they go back to their old recipe, because I loved it.

Decent fruitcake for the price. Needs more nuts Needs liquor but it is very nice.
I buy this whenever I get a craving for fruit cake and can't find it at the grocery store. This year it seemed like they reduced the amount of nuts in the cake. It's still very good - maybe slightly dry. Always thought about soaking this in rum or whiskey to make it a real fruit cake but haven't tried that yet.

A Classic that holds good memories.
What can I say other than that they are always the same. I'm one of the customers that have always liked the taste, and they remind me of my parents. My father always brought one at a tourist stop when we were on vacation. I think Stuckies always carried them. I don't recommend them as a gift, because it's a rare person who wants any fruitcake as a present. One exception to this is if you're buying it for me.
